Paying freight both ways on warrantied products?

I was wondering if you're supposed to pay freight both ways on warrantied products? Never had to in the past til this latest warrantied product replacement. Just wondering what is truly expected of freight on warrantied products. I expect to pay freight to ship the defective product while not held liable for freight on a warrantied replacement. The defective product shouldn't have been defective in the first place so.....

Never both ways.

Normal company: You pay to ship the defective product back, they pay to ship you a new one.

great company: they cover both shipping charges, or do an advance replacement with a prepaid label for the defective part.

I deal with a bunch of places from clothing to parts most or 90% of the time I have to pay one way they pay to ship it back.

Same here. Just returned a hockey stick to CCM. I paid shipping on the return and CCM paid covered the shipping on the new stick to my house.

I honestly think they should have picked up the shipping on the return.

Thanks for the feedback. That is what I thought it was supposed to be. The situation is cleared up. I don't have to worry about the freight charge from the company now since it was just someone in accounting there that was not aware of the situation between me and the warranty rep.

I never give them the opportunity to let them charge me freight and if works out where I do have to pay, I make sure I get some reimbursement, or credit if I know I will use them in the future. I would start the conversation when sending the product back as “I want to return this item for a replacement, will you be supplying me with a prepaid shipping box that will be sent directly to my address or will you have a charge number for me to give to the shipping company?” If it’s in warranty and it needs to be sent back I don’t see it’s their reasonability to take care of freight both ways. The way I look at it is I’m getting a new item so the last 4-5 months (or however long you have had the product) was basically free and I can pay that shipping cost one way. If they send me product that’s crap right out of the box I will in no way, shape or form be paying for it to get sent back to them. I am the customer; I should not be responsible for your poor quality processes. If it was damaged in shipping, I am still not going to pay shipping….the supplier and shipping company can work out who owes who what money.

I just got done dealing with this crap at work. I ordered a $15,000 piece of measuring equipment and a $6000 granite slab…both of which were packaged per the shipping co recommendations.
The measrueing equipment had something very large and heavy fall onto the crate during shipping which smashed the crate and f*cked the item all up, it was completely destroyed. The granite surface plate was hit with a fork lift and cracked a big part of one corner. After a bunch of discussions the shipping company paid for the granite slab and basically said we are not shipping another item like this for you guys, and did not come and get the damaged item (which is now a 4000lb paper weight in the way of everything).
The table was sent back to the manufacturer and they sent a replacement, however the shipping company wanted to give us a “extremely reduced rate” to ship it back to him…..ummm, reduced rate??? If you didn’t f*ck it up the first time I would be using it right now, not waiting another month to get a new one, reduced rate my a*s!
