Part out, rebuild, or bury my '05 900 RMK?

Hey guys, been a member for a couple years but this is my first post. I bought my 900 on the cheap 4 years ago knowing about the crank issues, the previous owner said he had all the preventative work done to make the motor reliable. I got plenty of good riding out of her but the other day the crank snapped at full throttle and the aluminum inner disc on the primary clutch blew into about a 100 little pieces. Also damaged the secondary clutch and cracked the plastics. The motor still ran after all this so I don't think the crankcase or internals are damaged. I'm looking around now at parts and I don't think I can rebuild for under $2500. I could throw used parts at it off ebay for cheap but I'll never feel like the motor is reliable. Just wondering if you guys have any suggestions. I'm torn, rebuild or try to part out what I can and get a newer sled? Other option is to douse in gasoline and give her a viking ship type burial.

Thanks,
Nick

when it comes to the motor I would never use used parts... it really gotta be up to you if the rest of the sled is in good condition it may still be cheaper to fix than replace. but once again that's a decision that your heavy heart must make good luck

Get in touch with Indydan and see how much his TM1 kits go for these days. They come with a new updated crank and larger PTO bearing and new drive clutch with the 1115 belt. Heck of a deal if you ask me. Plus a one year warranty.

I agree with Newfusion. Give Dan a call at Indy Specialties. He knows his stuff with these 900's. He has decent prices and he warranties his products.

Got insurance? You have an oppurtunity to build a beast for a small amount compared to new, parting out may take a while, viking burial..we NEED pics but part it out first.!

I have a 2005 slp top end and the first full billeted crank from Indy Dan. It was rebuilt bottom to top 800 mile ago. I was thinking of selling it. Plus it comes with clutch

Thanks guys for all the feedback, this weekend I posted the 900 on Craigslist "as is" and sold it the next day for $400. Was sad to see her go but I've got too many projects at the moment and I'd rather save up for a newer sled next season.

Is the rolling chassis of the 755/900's heavier than the new IQ Raw by a noticeable amount?

Toying with the idea of using one for a project.
