Parking lot issues

I recently was in Colorado chasing snow. Never been there before. I got to parking lot and read the sign that said" winter activity area." First picture on sign was a snowmobile, skier, camper, tent, hiker... a skier come buy and chewed my ass cuz I parked there... said he's never seen sledders park there... well karma is a bitch.. next day it was full of only sledders. That pay money to ride ... when are the skiers going to pay?? . its time everyone that enjoys witer activities on public ground pay equally! I'm sick of these water drinking, granola eating people that get there way!!

In the recent post, I have to agree that a fellow snow loving person having an attitude about legitimate parking seems uncalled for. I am quite surprised that regardless of the medium (motorized vs non motorized) it would be a pretext for derision in an area that is designated for both uses. I get that if I showed up to a cross country only, and proceeded to ride or if I were to snowshoe through the groomed tracks that I could get some heat. It sounds like the person may have been unwell but I would hesitate to use a broad stroke of the brush in condemnation. I am engaged in both Alpine Touring on skis as well as Snowmachine riding and have only had good experiences with the contrasting sports / individuals and the areas I ride / ski.

However I am puzzled with the following: "well karma is a bitch.. next day it was full of only sledders. That pay money to ride"

When you say pay money, are you talking about the permit fee each year that most states charge for motorized vehicles. If so I believe that the monies are used for and designated to furthering off road vehicle use in many states and something I think is helpful for our sport. I am not familiar with Colorado, are there other fees that a sledder needs to pay to ride that are not charged to non-motorized uses, ie Alpine touring, snowshoeing, hiking etc.

In the states that I ride off road the resources that allow access to the wilderness I find to be of great value in respect to what little I spend on permits.

Another perplexing comment is the following:
" ... when are the skiers going to pay?? . its time everyone that enjoys winter activities on public ground pay equally!"

So it seems like there is an issue with the reasoning where there is difference in the order of magnitude in terms of impact. It seems to me like a person saying why do I have to pay for registration and insurance on my motorized vehicle when a bicycle can get off Scott free. Without going into detail I think that for a host of reasons motorized vehicles will be in a different class regardless of the the fact that they utilize the same public access.

Wow: I have to believe that this is joke :) if not then I am in for a big conflict with my diet that includes both vegetables and meat.

I guess the skier should have read the sign. To bad he was a bad apple. I think I understand your comment about skiers having to pay. I assume your referring to parking lot plowing and trail grooming that comes from snowmobile fees. I think we will always have some bad apples even with snowmobilers. I was the first one to park in a snowmobile parking area and there was about an inch or two of snow on the parking lot. I parked at an angle I thought would be acceptable, but I guess not. When we got back in the evening after a long days ride, someone had put a note on my window telling me to park right! The snow had melted and I was a little off on my angle. I really doubt it made any difference to someone else not having a place to park as it wasn’t a very busy day. Just got to suck it up and not let it bother you.

Yep who pays for plowing the lot.. snowmobile riders!! Skiers don't pay
Karma?
He had never seen sledders in that lot... there was 2.and the next day there was 20.
Just shows how 2 people look at things differently.. and don't worry I know skiers will never pay.. you only have to pay if you have a motor

I feel the same way about pedal bikes. They want the city to go through the expense of widening the road to put in bike lanes, they don't want to have pay any kind of permit to use the lane though and want to pawn it off on motorists taxes out of fuel and road tax. Same people ride in traffic, cant keep up with traffic as the law specifies, so your stuck behind them and if you pass you run the risk of them freaking out and trying to report you saying you didn't give them a 5ft girth or whatever it is.

Haha, reminds me of a George Carlin joke many decades ago... anyone going slower than me is a moron and anyone faster is an Ahole :) It is unfortunate that in America a bicycle is not considered as a legit form of transport, but rather either as a toy for children or a vehicle fit only for the lower class or strange. In many cities in Europe close to 40 percent of commuters use them to go to work or school.

This issue is with more then just skiers though. I think some that come to the mountain states to ride, are used to wide open fields and lakes to park/ride on. This last weekend we were out and the every Vehical that was parked rudely ( trying to keep it nice here) had out of state plates. Now I'm not saying that all midwest (Iowa, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Minnesota, Etc.) riders are as rude as the ones we seen this weekend but wow. I not sure if they think they are spacial because they drove all that way, or if there going to keep others off the snow, by taking all the parking lot spaces, but come on guys the mountain is plenty big enough for all of us. This joker 2 days in a row parked sideways in the parking lot taking 3 -4 spots each day.
