Good question. I'm running the PAR Ultimate Pro kit (13.6 head, Slp pipe) with a power commander 5. Also added a Fire and Ice dash intake.
I'm going to say that in all likelihood, you will be triggering the det sensor all day long without a fuel controller, even with av gas.
The midrange needs to be 15% or so richer with the head / pipe combo (guessing your results would be similar with the dyno port) to run properly. Lean midrange is not something you want to experiment with.
I run 91 octane, ride 6K-11K feet.
