Panthera Cr500 E-Start Alert

I have debated posting this for the simple fact that Sebastien @ Panthera Motorsports is a great guy and stands behind his product. Here's the issue. Last ride out the starter would not engage. Used the kicker all day. Pulled the bike apart the next day to find my gears had been sheared, the starter gear missing all it's teeth. The other gears missing sections of teeth. Called Sebastien and he said it sounds like you had a "kick back". Agreed to fix the gears, but then it dawned on me, What's to keep this from happening again? I asked him, he said "Nothing", we're working on it". At that point I asked for a refund and shipped it back. The Canadian customs delay is a great frustration as well, but that's another story.
I'm posting this so that potential buyers are aware of the issue. Had I known I would not have made the purchase.

do you have a compression release? You should be using one with this setup just for the safety of the expensive parts. Very few have had any problems that I have heard

I did (do) have a compression release but didn't use it because it wasn't needed. That doesn't fix the inherent problem with the design.

electricity to start stuff

unless you have some type of sprague clutch, ratchet release, one way gear, any backfire when starting will total the system, Yamaha tried that in 03............woops, had to add a one way ratchet besides their sprague clutch like most road bikes, and oh those big singles are like a mule waiting for the right moment to bite you.

Isn't this what shear pins are designed for? Softer metal that grenades first, protect the more expensive parts. You're still don't for the day but cheap part

I remember having to add an updated stater intermediate gear to my 05 525exc for the same reason. When will the updated part be available for the CR500 starter? I'm on the fence about ordering one...
