Painting the axys tunnel, has anyone done it?

Hi, I have a in season 163 axys rmk. I'm looking at getting the tunnel painted red to match the side panels. Has anyone done this? I know there are drawbacks to going this route vs just a wrap. But I don't like how the wrap doesn't have full coverage and leave some aluminum showing. What paint are you having good luck with holding up? Thank you for the help.

There was a post by MountainHorse in the Pro Ride forum that I believe he painted the entire chassis of a 13 pro and he lists what the best paint may be. Try searching that. Good luck!

Painting aluminum is very tricky, best option would be to have it powder coated

Regardless of which process is used, the only "tricky" part (not my choice of descriptors) is in the preparation and that is essentially the same for both processes.

I won't powder coat anything that is aluminum as you take the chance of negating the heat treatment and loosing all it's strength. My preference is a self etching paint or at least a self etching primer coat.

Thanks for the help, looks like I need to find the paint mountainhorse used and a good body shop to finish it after I prep.

It's por-15. I sent MH a pm about it earlier in the season. I haven't gotten a chance to paint my tunnel rails and spindles yet Was waiting for the end of season

Fyi I did a powder coat article on my sled back on 13 when the sled was brand new. That powder is now flaking off and I am going to try prepping and painting with por-15 to see the results.
