painting plastics

i have a 06 mxz rs and i wanna paint that plastic piece behind the seat that holds the tail light, anyone know any good ways of doin that with keepin it from crackin?

Krylone Fusion paint works great. Painted all my pastic (blue to flat black). Does well with gas and tree contact, not rocks. Scotch brite every shiney square millimeter, orbital sand 220 flat areas, laquer thinner wipe down.

There a spray paint for plastics. I can't rember what it is called but i found it at a local hardware store. Make sure you prepare the surface well so it will look good. I painted dirt bike plastics and it looked good untill i layed it down but a sled sure doesn't take the abuse of rocks.

go to a paint store for automotive paint, they can mix you what you need and it will have an additive in it for flexible plastic(bumpers and such on new cars)and normally they can put it in spraycans for you.....so you wont need fancy paint equipment...

X2! I painted that same panel behind the seat with Krylon Fusion black paint and it held up well while I had the stock seat (use a Boss seat now). Use some sort of solvent on the plastic first - I used toluene as that's the strongest.

Have FUN!

Great tips above! Definitely sand the pieces down before painting. I have found 320 grit sandpaper works well. A scotch pad will do the trick as well, but as mentioned above, leave no shiny spots unsanded. I would recommend priming the surfaces you are going to paint with flexible parts primer as well. (should be able to find it at any parts store) Works great on all the parts i have painted!
