Painting pipes

google VHT paint. Jegs sells it. To cure it I just fire the motor, warm it up, shut it down, cool. Repeat a couple times. The paint drys flat, but they do have a gloss coating as well.

I used PJ1 pipe paint with ceramic in it. Works great but you must be very patient and apply in very thin coats or it runs real easy. One thing I found that helps is to warm the pipes up in your oven set at the lowest setting before you paint them. Also wipe them down with Carb cleaner to get rid of oil residue. Do this before you warm them and make sure that 100% of it has evaporated before you put it in the oven.

Also Autozone and many other parts stores carry a paint made by duplicolor that is made for headers and will withstand 1500 degrees the PJ1 is rated to 1200.

Dupli-color has a patent on a paint with ceramic in it, I have used it for a few years and it holds up well... Like anything you are going to paint, proper prep is imperative! Clean the oil off of them and a light bead blast to remove any rust doesn't hurt either, then fire the engine to get them up to curing temperature.

duplicolor has worked good for me. it comes in buffed aluminum finish and you can get it at any NAPA auto parts store.

Wax and grease remover
Sand with scotchbrite
Wax and grease again
Paint light coats, and repeat. I use John Deere muffler paint, I usally have to repaint them everyother year or so.

Good suggestions here.

The previous owner of my sled took less than perfect care so there was alot of surface rust. I used a wire brush in a drill to get it off.

Make sure the paint you use is self priming or use a primer as it will last alot longer. I have used barbeque paint and I am pleased with the results.

i just spent thursday and friday morning sand blasting my stinger and pipes for my ultra, then i blew it out all of the sand with an air hose and i just painted them friday with VHT 1200-2000 degree paint
