Painting my front bumper

I have a 2014 stock Pro RMK with the silver bumper. I would like it flat black or maybe semi-gloss black. Is there a certain kind of primer or paint I should use? How about truck bed liner, put on professionally of course. Suggestions appreciated.:face-icon-small-coo

The paint shop will have the correct prep and primer if you decide to paint. (A paint supply shop also will know if you paint yourself)
If you do the bed liner i think sanding and cleaning it with acetone make it stick.

Id powder coat it if i was dead set on keeping the stock bumper.

My bumper might as well be a dozer blade, and the PC hold up amazing

Another vote for Powdercoating. If you use your bumper for anything other than a grab handle, the powder will far outlast any painting.

Auto body supply store, not auto parts store will have a rattle can called acid 8,... It's an etch primer that will stick to aluminium. Then shoot it with your desired black. Not as strong as powder coating. But much cheaper. Holds up pretty good. Easy to recoat.

Thin wall tube like that... PAINT IT IMO.

Above is the right method... Wash it, dry it.... warm temp... etch prime (rattle can) and then top coat with good paint.... IMO... better than pow coat.

The paint that I'd use is called POR-15... as tough or tougher than most Pow Coats.
Cool thing is that you can get awesome results with a paint brush (really!)

But, just do yourself a favor, buy a B&M front bumper etc... (Love mine)

Youll like the added grip space, extra wide area for plowing thru crap... And, it comes coated, whatever color ya want basically.

Mountainhorse, can you elaborate on the etch primer and POR-15. What brand are those, and where are they available. Thanks.

My favorite are the zinc-chromate etch primers for outboard motors...Tempo makes those... but you'll need a boat shop or west-marine-type store nearby.

Almost as good... SEM or other companies sell good etch primers at Orielly Napa Carquest or a local auto-body/paint supply will have what you need.

por-15 is good chit. they should sell it in a rattle can:face-icon-small-dis
as stated. etch prime, and then black satin rustolem.
sand the bumper in 600 grit. clean with denatured alcohol, paint in warm area. or warm up the bumper in the oven first at 150, then paint.

Which brand of primer and top coat did you use?

I've used POR-15 on truck bumpers, Inside of ranger beds, shovels and sled parts... with good cleaning/prep/temp/prime/application... this stuff is great. Not the best in summer time direct full-time sunlight...though I've had it on truck bumpers for years... worst that happens is it goes a bit "matte" .
