Painting a new hood?

Has anyone had any luck painting and clear coating a new snowmobile hood? Hood on my new dragon sure is flimsy. Not like the old edge hood! I'm afraid the clear will crack if it gets any twist.

Any Ideas?

No problem , prep and paint just like a car. You can use some elastomeric additive to the clear if your hood is real flismy. Urethane's are flexible on their own, though.

you can buy a flex additive, it works great. Its made for car bumpers and other plastic items.

the flex addative is not nessary, its only needed if you flex the part before its fully cured, the flex addative does not keep the product flexable for more that about 10 hours. just refinish the product in quality automotive finish, and dont use a cheap clear coat.

TRUE! There are too many people that think that flex additive will keep the paint flexible for life. When in reality the flex flashes off like the rest of the solvents in the paint, just at a slower rate. Use a good paint, and clear, and you won't have any problems. Dupont, RM Diamont, PPG, are all good. HOK is OK, I prefer RM Diamont over them all, probably because I use it more often. Bottom line, cheap lower quality paints will crack easier than the good ones.

make sure you use a plastic primer thats flexable and use good quality products ,its also super important to get youre sandding right when painting plastic
