If I remember in some past dealing with you weren't you a tech at this dealership in Edmonton where there was a shooting and they say an Auto Tech was possibly shot????? Sure hope not
EDMONTON — Two men are dead following a shooting Friday morning inside the Great West Chrysler dealership.
Edmonton police Insp. Denis Jubinville said police received a call just after 7:45 a.m. that shots had been fired in the dealership at 178th Street and Stony Plain Road.
Three men were shot, and one was taken to hospital with unknown injuries, Jubinville said. The other two are dead, including the man police believe was the shooter.
Jubinville said police cannot confirm the shooter killed himself, but said they are not looking for another gunman. Neither would police confirm the relationship of any of the victims to the car dealership.
A number of witnesses are still inside the dealership helping with the investigation.
Representatives from victims services are also there to provide counselling.
Sources from nearby car dealerships say they believe the service manager and an automotive technician were victims in the shooting. Scott Morgan is the service manager at Great West.
People in the car sales industry say there have been layoffs at Great West Chrysler, largely in the parts and service department, but added layoffs have been happening for the last 14 months across the industry.
Todd McLeod, an employee at the Chrysler dealership who showed up after the shooting, said layoffs at Great West were kept very quiet.
Few employees would have been around at the time of the shooting and likely no customers, McLeod said, but he hasn’t been allowed on-site yet.
Sherry Motowyoo’s husband Mike was dropping off a truck for service at the dealership for a 7:30 a.m. appointment.
While there, Motowyoo said, he heard at least one shot. He is still inside with the investigators.
Employees in nearby businesses heard a steady stream of emergency vehicles racing by.
“There’s a ton of emergency service vehicles and police,” said West Harvest Inn general manager Lillian Pushar.
Police and employees were gathered in one of the service bays after the ambulance departed.
About a dozen police cars were parked nearby.
Jane Vasylysyna, the receptionist at the West Edmonton Hyundai dealership across the street, said staff there have been watching police at the site all morning but haven’t heard any news yet.
She agreed the service area would likely be very quiet before 8 a.m.
Hyundai’s service centre opens at 7:30 a.m., but few customers come in until after 8 a.m.
At Hyundai, only a receptionist would have been around.
