P22 Groove

I was just wondering if anyone knew why there is a groove in the P22 sheaves. I have 17 miles on my ‘25 and it already has a groove but it is smaller than my ‘22 with 500 miles. I don’t remember seeing it when I cleaned and aligned my ‘25 before riding it but I didn’t look super closely. Is it there from the factory?

just about every P22 we work on has the same grove where the belt engages...2 reasons, 1 the belt to sheave clearance is to much, over .050-.080... no way to close that up, thus the sheaves slam into the belt, 2 the material on the P22 is much SOFTER, so it will allow the belt to grove the faces...I would say the P22 clutch sheaves are not heat treated as much as the P85...I drill into both clutches daily there is a huge difference in the alum hardness....

Another reason, the clutch has 13.5* sheaves and the belt has 14*.
The clutch engages the top of the belt every time. A tight belt to sheave or the sheave slamming into the belt on the P22 makes the grove worse.
Polaris needs to build a 13-13.5* belt. That would also mitigate the cord pulling.

Better for biz so they can sell more belts (and clutches)!
