p 85?

will a p85 off a 08 800 (rmk)fit on a 97 700(rmk) is the tapper the same?

You can probably switch the inner sheaves to use the 08 clutch. It would take some measurements & shimming the spider, but I think it would work. Check the sheaves, Polaris changed the angle (degrees) in the 90's. Might want to get the clutch balanced if you did.

Any idea what year or about what year the change was, and did they go steeper or more shallow? Which is best? I'm in the market for a new clutch now that my rebuild quote has gone from $160 to $360 at the local Polaris dealer.

I feel your pain on the primary rebuild. The local dealer took my dad for $375 a few years ago on a rebuild so I bought all of the tools to rebuild our primary's. Used them to rebuild about 6 clutches since...paid for themselves on the first one.

Sorry I can't find anything definite. Going from memory I'd say it was pre mid 90's and from 12 to 14 degrees.

well thats just it..buddy was going to do a rebuild when he dropped it and broke a chunk out of it. i found him on from a 08 800..it hurts to spend $500 on a clutch on a well used 97 700..now it`s buy a used and rebiuld it?thats not a cheap way out..

You can find a good used clutch on here or kijiji(edmonton) going rate is 250-350 and I found one for a buddy that only had 100 miles on it (removed for electric start) Call 780-645-4639 and ask for bob, I believe he can help you out, or give Trent at Elk Island Sales a call.

I've been doing a clutch search for my 98 700 rmk. Looks like I am picking one up in Ellensburg right after xmas. I do believe though that all the domestic twins from 97 to present have the same taper on the crank. Just don't get one off a 550 fan, as it is different.
