P-85 Primary Clutch Fits?

Does a 2002 550 fan P-85 primary clutch also work on a 2002 Liberty 500 liquid cooled twin? Are the tapers identical and all that is different is the spring/weights?

The taper is the same But the 550 fan has its own clutch puller and i am not sure that if you put it on there that there is a puller to get it off.

I have both clutch pullers. I will check the thread engagement portion that grabs the clutch to make sure they are the same. The end of the crankshafts are different and I'm pretty sure that's why the pullers are different. Thanks for your reply.

Yep there is a short taper and a long taper crank. You can put a short taper clutch on a long taper crank. But cant always put a long taper on a short taper crank (the clutch may hit the motor).

So if the taper is the same but the length of the crankshaft varies, does that impact either the HP that can be transmitted or does the clutch alignment get thrown off between the primary and secondary clutches. I'm guess the alignment is a non-issue but the short taper on a big block might not be a good idea.

There is not a big difference only about 3/8 in or so. I guess with big hp like 165 plus it would not be good to have it out on the snout of the crank further. but on a 500 i don't think there would be any problems.

I was up north this weekend where my sleds are and I had a 550 fan clutch that I had removed to add electric start to my wife's sled. I put it on my spare 800 motor just to see and it sure looked like it was in the correct position for the gap to the block. It sat in very close. Wish I could measure the ID of the taper at the end and compare becasue that's what really determines how far in it will go. I threaded a Liberty clutch bolt in and it snugged up fine. So if the taper is the same, it's in correct alignment, then it grabs the crank with the same area as the non fuji clutch. I also tried the Liberty clutch puller and it went in fine. Reason for the whole question is I could get an electric start clutch reasonable from a 550 and it could then go on a 700 I have that my wife could then ride. Thanks for the information so far.

I don't do much with the electric start sleds much so there i cant help you.
I do know it needs more that a 1/2 inch of room there so as to not hit the bulkhead with the back of the clutch.
