Oxygen is poison (it causes CO2). Let's cap and tax oxygen.

From American Thinker:

Enough already with carbon cap and trade. I say let's cap oxygen, and then tax any family that can't achieve the Average Family Oxygen Target of 80% BOOTS (Before Obama Oxygen Trading Scheme). Remember, if you weren't inhaling all that O2 you wouldn't be belching out clouds of noxious CO2. Yuck. Yes, I know oil refineries smell bad and coal looks dirty. But none of that carbon would ever see the light of day if it weren't for all the oxygen you suck in, you greed bucket. So let's get down to root causes.

Here's the goal. If we can only get five billion people around the world to breathe 20% less oxygen per person, we would Save the Planet from Global Warming. Just like that!

Twenty percent less O2 going into your body means 20% less CO2 out-gassing, atom-for-atom. It's just like cutting down the world population by a billion polluting oxygen hogs.

Capping oxygen is actually the hardest part. Once you learn to cut down your intake, we just set up a market to trade official credits for the unbreathed O2 that you could have inhaled but didn't. Let's assume for the sake of planetary computer modeling that you can personally cut down your breathing by 20%. Try it! Just hold your nose and breathe through a straw. And when you get that strangled feeling, just remember you're Saving the Planet. Lay back and think of Paul Krugman.

Did you ever want to lose weight? This is the ecologically responsible way to do it. It's the Oxygen Sparing Diet. If you breathe just one-fifth less oxygen you'll be eating one-fifth less food, because your body uses all that oxygen to metabolize your French fries and fat-burgers. The benefits are out of this world.

Now here's the free market angle. Congress can pass a law stating that if you achieve more than the mandated National O2 Reduction of 20% you will receive an official US Government Oxygen Trading Credit for all the oxygen you did not breathe beyond 20%. It's like price supports for farmers, except that everybody can play. For instance, if you cut your O2 down by 25% you receive a 5% Oxygen Trading Credit, to sell to your huffing and puffing neighbors on a free market basis. If you breathe 30% less, you get a 10% OTC. It's supply and demand!

Or consider this option: For the average family of five --- two adults, two kids and a dog --- just get rid of a family member. You can start by getting rid of your dog. Do you have any idea how much oxygen a running dog breathes? Do your Planet a favor, please. And once you get the hang of it...

Even cars breathe oxygen to burn gasoline. Cut your driving by 20% --- after all, you won't need to drive now that you're breathing less --- and not only will you cut carbon pollution, but you can slice even more off your greedy Oxygen Excess. And don't forget that you can sell all your Oxygen Trading Credits to your O2-hogging neighbors.

Once you get used to cutting down your O2 you'll like yourself a lot better. The Planet will thank you. So will your neighbors.

Try it if you don't believe it. Breathe in just a little bit less every single day, until you're down 10%, then 15%, 20% ... and more? You could actually build your income from the Oxygen Trading Credits if you manage to cut down by 30% or even 40%. Just breathe through that straw and hold your nose.

Remember, Oxygen is Poison!

Gainster, you missed this one???

With the rate this government is going with the no-brain, idiotic, moronic, self-destructive, adolescent decisions and choices, this is actually not too far fetched! If they are taxing CO2, why not oxygen.

BTW, the OP is a JOKE.

Welcome to americanthinker :D

That's what I love about what's happening here, we let each other know stuff. Just one of us can't do it all and the many-of-us pick up the slack. I learn a lot from you guys and find new sources of info all the time. I really like American Thinker and I owe it to you (Gainster). I owe all the laughs from the Teleprompter's blog to Snowizard. I owe thought provoking debate lessons to Ollie.

I'd like to also give a shout out to....oh crap, Sidehiller's gonna be mad :D

Seriously, so many of you guys have played really important parts in helping us all explore what's going on that we won't get from the MSM or the WH.

Just rec'd this

The following article appeared Tuesday in the newsletter Growth Stock Wire, written by geologist Matt Badiali. It was preceded by the headline:

The Government Is About to Pull $3,000 Out of Your Pocket

On Friday, the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2454, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009, by a vote of 33 to 25. ( don't believe these vote #'s are correct)
According to the bill's sponsors, it is "a comprehensive approach to America's energy policy that will create millions of new clean energy jobs, save consumers hundreds of billions of dollars in energy costs, enhance America's energy independence, and cut global warming pollution."

If you believe that, I hear Bernie Madoff is starting a new fund.

The bill will actually levy financial penalties agai nst companies that produce carbon dioxide and other gases. Carbon dioxide is a byproduct of burning stuff – leaves, coal, gasoline, etc.

Coal and natural gas are the two cheapest sources of power at 1¢ per kilowatt hour and 1.4¢ per kilowatt hour, respectively.

Wind power is seven times more expensive than coal; solar is 35 times more expensive. You might as well try to generate the nation's electricity with a bunch of little Honda generators.

The law would require greenhouse gas emissions cut to 97% of 2005 levels, approximately 6.98 billion tons, in 2012. We produced 7.28 billion tons in 2007, the latest data available. It's a miniscule change, and it won't help the climate in the least.

By 2050, the figure jumps to an insane 17% of 2005 levels. There's no way that will work... In 2007, burning oil contributed 2.6 billion tons of carbon (35%). Burning coal contributed 2.2 billion tons (30%). And burning natural gas contributed 1.2 billion tons (17%). Those three sources contributed 70% of our electricity and all of our transport fuel. Where the hell are we going to come up with a replacement... even in 40 years?

Let's be clear: This 1,200-page bill isn't about saving the environment over the next few decades. This bill is about dollars – yours and mine – right now.

As soon as it's enacted, it will increase our electric bills by 32%. The costs will climb to an extra 62% within the first 18 to 24 months. H ere's why:

Coal power plants that produce more carbon dioxide than they're allowed will have to buy the right to produce more. That additional cost will be passed on to consumers. According to the Congressional Budget Office, we'll pay about $846 billion to the federal government from 2010 to 2019.

That's not the only cost we're going to shoulder. Any energy-intensive business is going to get clobbered by this bill. In 2012, when the rules go into affect, oil refiners will be forced to add $0.77 per gallon of gasoline, $0.83 per gallon of jet fuel, and $0.88 per gallon of diesel fuel, according to the American Petroleum Institute.

Companies buying that fuel are going to pass that cost directly along to you and me. We'll remember 2012 as the year of $6 gasoline. Rex Tillerson, CEO of ExxonMobil, thinks it will actually increase imports of finished fuels, because foreign refined products will be cheaper.

U.S.-based steelmakers will also get crushed. Foreign steelmakers won't have to worry about the onerous energy taxes, and steel imports will remain cheap. So, unlike refiners, U.S. steelmakers won't be able to pass along energy costs. That will be the story for other U.S. metal industries like zinc, aluminum, silver, and gold.

But the worst-hit industry will be coal. Portrayed as the villain in the war on climate change, many coal companies (particularly on the East Coast) will go out of business.

According to analysis by the Heritage Foundation (a conservative think-tank), the combined cost of the bill would be $3,000 per family in 2012 and $20,000 per household by 2035. If you make $50,000, you're looking at an after-tax 7% paycut as soon as the legislation hits.

Commodity Q&A: A Powerball Ticket on Oil

How can a family be expected to carry a $20,000-per-year burden, no matter how far in the future it's placed? When you add all the costs up, direct and indirect, it spells a major decline in our standard of living.

We have one more chance to stop this legislation, when the Senate takes up the bill. The problem is, few Democrats bucked the party in the House. On a party-line vote, this passes the Senate, too. Then we're in real trouble.

That's the end of the article. Remember, this was not written by some idealogue with a political ax to grind. It's simply a fairly straight forward look at this bill, which represents the largest tax increase in American history. If you go to American Solutions.org you will see a petition that can be signed, in an effort to defeat this bill in the Senate.

Passing this bill would represent a financial disaster, wreaking our economy. The cost to produce any goods that use energy in the process (such as food) would skyrocket. Please pass this along to your address book, and do your part to participate in the process of saving our country.

Consider fuel added ^^^

I might've posted something similar to this before but here's an article quoting ten different scientists with PhDs explaining that CO2 is not a pollutant, it's necessary for life, and that three or four times the amount of CO2 in the air will not hurt us. Pretty interesting statements they make about the need for and properties of CO2 and how there used to be a lot more of it and we thrived.

Just one of the ten:

"CO2 is not a pollutant. In simple terms, CO2 is plant food. The green world we see around us would disappear if not for atmospheric CO2. These plants largely evolved at a time when the atmospheric CO2 concentration was many times what it is today. Indeed, numerous studies indicate the present biosphere is being invigorated by the human-induced rise of CO2. In and of itself, therefore, the increasing concentration of CO2 does not pose a toxic risk to the planet." - John R. Christy, Ph.D. Professor of Atmospheric Sciences, University of Alabama
