OVS Visit = Tial Turbo Purchase

Decided to go visit the guys at OVS and get some clutching done to my Sled last week. I was looking for some better weights for my 09 setup, was very happy with the top end but was looking for some better bottum.
Travis did some magic to my sled and it was running great! new weights spring changed, a little attention to the PL box!! very happy so I thought I would try out the new goodies they had, what a mistake!!! they had both the tial turbo on 2010 m8 and a m12 with it, keep in mind I was riding last years turbo at 12.5 lbs of boost. So I tossed my leg over the M12 and blipped the turbo on it and almost crapped my pants at 11lbs!! so I moved around the meadow and got used to it after a half dozon stabs or so, VERY impressed and freaked out!!:D
Then Travis convinced me to race the m8 against my sled, GOT BEAT by an m8 so then I had to ride it. Oh my god is all I can say! Now he had me sold on the Tial! had to switch mine, so the boys went ot work at 4pm on a saturday and converted me to a tial setup running 12-13lbs of boost with no cooler.. The sled now runs like an M8 on the bottum end and pulls your arms off through the mid and top end!! WOW! Lets just say I will not be changing a thing on this sled now!!! I was thinking of going to an m8 cause it was so nice on the bottum end but now with the coversion I dont have to!!! OVS has done some serious homework on the tial and developed a great way to connect the system, it is top of the line setup and Im proud to be a new owner!!! so the kicker is the next day Travis/Garr took me up to monte and set the boost on the m12 at 5 lbs and the 2010 m8 at 18lbs and we go for a ride,,, what a fund day all sleds where off the hook!!!!
Guess what sled was first to the top of the hill:confused: How about the pump gas m12!!! I know everyone is going to call BS!! go ahead!! I can take it cause Im still grinnin! THIS SH1t works AWSOME!!!! I havent been this stoked about sledding in a couple years! I think Im going to take another weeks vacation just to ride!!!
See ya at the top if you can make it!

Great to hear. A friend and I have a couple of TM1200s at OVS now. Travis is doing a little magic to them. He has been absolutely stellar to deal with. Talk about take time and answer any questions one may have. Off the hook. We hope to get over to Ogden this week sometime and check the "rebirth" of our sleds.

Sam

I have always said it not just the sum of the parts but the tunning that goes with it,,, and those guys at OVS have been doing this for so long!!! the stuff just flat works!!! and they dont need a special thread just for their problems!!!:D

Tial Kits

And every one is wondering why all I am running this year is Tial kits.Hmm well I am not sure but I sure like it.

Is this a good bang for the buck? Is this changing the wastegate type (internal, external) or staying the same? Any change in A/R on the turbine housing? I have been thinking of changing to a tial turbine housing.

Great bang for the buck!! This is just an estimate but I would say a normal turbo gives you more power in 30-40% of you power band and it comes on real hard at that point. The tial spools up much sooner so you end up with power coming on over 70+% of your power band, since is comes on sooner it doesnt have the harsh power band. I let a couple of guys ride it this weekend that are big bore guys and they couldnt believe how linear the throttle was. I think it converted them!
The changes that OVS made consisted of removing the old exhaust/wastegate housing and installing a tial exhaust housing, new exhaust can that accepts the new waste gate connection that OVS designed and did a he11 of a job. The pipe stayed the same, I think Travis changed the program on the PL box but he would have to answer that. Then of course I needed to add clutch wieght, bummer!
So is it worth it? I would do it all over again in a second. The all around performance is so much better, go see them and take a test ride. Oh try out the pump gas 12 that thing will smoke anyones pump gas sled!

Snowstar there is alot more to it than just wastegate types. The A/R is a big deal and we spent alot of time to make a watsegate mount that does not ruin the tune of the 2-stroke pipe. This is done with the new wastegate center section that is back bored and ported for the wastegate to let boost off with out disturbing the tune of the pipe. This also allows for a stock pipe gasket to be used so the turbo is not mounted riggid causing pipe breakage from vibration. Then you can use the same pipe your turbo is using and not weld a 1.3 inch stinger into your pipe stinger thus causing the tune of the pipe to change as soon as the wastegate opens

i got to see one up close......the quick disconnect marmen clamps are sweet:beer;....sure an external waste gate will act quicker, but why, is the engine flowing enough exhaust gases to matter?

What is a....?

Please help one of use who has missed the front of the conversation....
What is a TIAL, what does it do, why do I need one?
Also, what is A/R? Thanks!

Jay the tial changes the way the turbo, exhaust and waste gate work together. It is a performance design that the waste gate does not enter the Turbo exhaust housing rather it enters the mufflers or in most cases its own muffler. So in the true performance you system would have 2 exhausts 1 normal one and 1 for the waste gate. OVS found a way to put them both into the exhaust can that works very well.

Flew to Ogden yesterday to check out our TM1200s. The sleds both had turbos on them before we delivered them to OVS. My sled, purchased from Isaatv here on the boards, was built by Brad Story and a few others. Travis had actually done some dialing on it last year. While the sled was decent, it was far from what it should have been. The other TM1200 was the carbon fiber sled that has been on these forums quite a bit. It was in a very sad state of tune. Travis picked us up at the airport. He was extremely busy (his phone does not stop ringing lol) but still found the time to answer all our questions and was waaaaay accommodating. Garr bent over backwards to answer questions, and was great to talk with. They worked their magic on the sleds, including installing Tial kits on each sled. They had our sleds ready for a shackdown ride and we hit the hills behind the shop. Hard to describe the difference between the before and after. No comparison at all. Extremely clean running all the way through the powerband. The pull of the two sleds is amazing. I have a TAPEX that I run to 22-24lbs of boost. The TM1200s at 12lbs of boost, with the Tial kits, are stronger, hands down. Probably the most surprising is how easy the sleds are to ride. The driveability of the sleds is great. And the "legs"!!! Talk about serious pull. My sled way exceeded my expectations.

Another great little treat was their TM8 with the Tial kit. Very, very impressive. I have a BD TM8, and while I only run 10-11lbs. of boost with it, the OVS TM8 with Tial kit is way beyond my TM8. Looks like I need to take another of my sleds to OVS.;)

Had the pleasure of meeting Val Simmons while at OVS also. He delivered a very TRICK propane TNytro to Travis and Garr. Had the opportunity to ride one of his TNytros. Awesome sled. Val is an inspiration and a true ambassador to our sport. If I did not already have 3 turbos one of his TNyros would be in my stable.

To sum it up. A great day. Awesome sleds. A real treat to receive such service. Val, great meeting you. Garr, thanks for your hospitality. And Travis, thanks again for everything. You guys went above and beyond. The time frame was off the hook. I still can not believe you accomplished everything you did to our sleds, in such a timely fashion. What a concept, to actually have service done, and completed, in the time it was promised.

I will post some pictures of the sleds in a few days when we get them back. I would highly recommend OVS and their services. An experience that has surpassed our expectations, that is for sure. Thanks again OVS.

Sam

BTW, Travis, if you read this we will be in touch with you regarding the "next" turbo swap.

Though I dont have the TIAL I have last years kit from OVS and it kicks azz!

These guys answer their phone even on the weekends which is awesome.

Better service than guys here locally.

THANKS GUYS

Well, the OVS Tial kits work so well we delivered 4 more sleds to them on Thursday for OVS BOOST!!!!!!!!!! 3 09 M8s, 2 which already have turbos on them, and a TM1000. After riding the OVS TM8, our TM8s felt like stockers. The TM1000 will get the Tial upgrade as well.

Travis and Garr, work your "magic".

Thanks in advance.

Sam

Ovs

Just want to echo the great service and hospitality of the OVS guys. I took my Carbon TM1200 along with Sam's TM1200 to Travis and Garr and they did everything beyond our expectations. 1 day after getting our 1200's back to Colorado we sent 4 more sleds to OVS for Tial kits and Pure Logic Boxes. 3 of the 4 sleds already had BD turbo kits (4 sleds: 2 of mine, 1 of Sam's, and a friends virgin M8).
Thanks to Travis, Garr, Randy and the OVS guys. And thanks to Val for letting me rip around on his Turbo-Propane Nytro. Now thats another story....

Mark me down as being more than impressed! A couple of days ago I PMed Travis with a question regarding my TM-1000. Now I did not purchase my turbo from him, nor is it even his kit, so I did not hold out much hope in receiving a reply from him, much less getting a phone call. Well, much to my surprise, last night while working in the shop on my sled, the phone rang; It was Travis. Well, a half hour later and a wealth of information, which he gladly supplied, I had a much better idea on how to resolve a minor issue I was having. Now, I understand this is a business and to some degree Travis and OVS need to be receptive to potential clients; however, this was way beyond that. Travis obviously loves what he is doing and enjoys sharing what he knows. And boy let me tell you, it appears his knowledge base runs deep. I typically don't write about people or businesses in this venue, that is how impressed I was.

Thanks again Travis.
