OVS- How close are you guys to the recommended settings?

F
07 M8 Tial Race gas. I'm the new owner of this used sled (my buddies old sled). He bought the turbo system new last year, only took it out west once. Needless to say, it's probably not dialed in like it could be. I live in Iowa, so walking out my back door to tune everynight after work isn't a option. I was wondering how close everyone's settings on the pure logic box is compared to the recommended settings on the OVS site?

I wish there was a book, "you, your turbo, and your snowmobile" that I could check out at the library. Thanks to everyone that helped me on my last question.

I'd buy that book!

I'm kinda in the same place as you. I just bought a used turbo sled and I plan on only riding it here in WI and MI but I'm finding it really hard to find much info on running a turbo at low elevation. I'd like to know how much boost I can run on AvGas vs race fuel at sea level? I don't care about the cost it's just a lot less of a hassle to get AvGas where I live.

Call the company who made your kit or a reputable dealer who installs them. Only other way is to experiment on your own. I think Gus bohne rides his at lower elevation, nt sure who's kit he uses.

This place is a great resource, but not a lot of replacement for the builders themselves.

My .02. Keep reading!

You'll want to get the head re-cut for the lower elevation, think ours have the domes cut .010 we run 500-4000'. Avgas is a joke run race fuel if your spending the money and time on a turbo don't cut corners.

please explain this highly intelligent comment to some of us dumb folks who have been running av gas for thousands of trouble free miles in our turbos

Here are a couple of info sources.

http://www.ogdenvalleysports.com/modes_28.html

http://www.pltuning.com/tuning_5.html

I found that their starting points were real close for me. One little trick that Travis taught me for my turbo: Shut the red circuit completely off for your initial tuning. Then you only have to deal with tuning green and yellow for idle and after engaugement cruise fuel. He taught me to use the green/blue for most of my boosted fuel needs and supplement with a smaller number of yellow/blue. Once you get dialed with those you can turn the red back on and fine tune the transistion between non boost and boost if it's necc.

One point of interest: If i let a much heavier rider, ride my sled, it needs a touch(1/2 - 1) more fuel on the green and the yellow.

This process doesn't work on attitude boxes......er at least my buddy's attitude box is not programmed to tune the same way, so they obviously have different programing concepts, or it may be because he has a poo?

Hope this helps!

you should be able to run 8-10 lbs of boost on AVGAs

sure run Race fuel for higher boost above 10 lbs, but Avgas is great for lower boost 8-10lbs, 4-6 lbs on pump and 6-8 on premium non ethanol.you won't know what boost level you can run on a given octane until you bump your knock sensor, each kit varies, also atmospheric conditions affect this, ie. altitude, temp, amount of moisture in the air.

I don't want to take over this guys thread but my sled...new to me is a 2007 M1000 with a Dakota 1200 kit..two base gaskets...and a Push RG kit. I think I'll stick with race gas until I get comfortable with how the sled runs.

NEED SNOW!!

You are not going to have to change it to much if it set up properly. It is not that hard to tune, just learn the funtions of your controller. Make sure your wideband or egt gauges are working. If you do not feel confident get some help when you are tuning it. Take extra plugs and run it rich, pull fuel untill it cleans up.

I'm not too concerned with low elevation tuning, I have nothing but time.

I can play around with it while I'm stuck here in Iowa. I'm just trying to use my time as wisely as possible while I'm in the mountains. I'd give my left nut to live closer to the big hills.

I have another question. If I'm am set up for say, 10 lbs of boost running 100 octane at 9000 ft. elevation, when I get back to Iowa at 1000 ft. elevation, will the sled still be running at 10 lbs. of boost or will I have to turn the boost down to run 100 octane. Better yet, I don't need turbo power here, can I turn it way down to run pump fuel?

I knew it wouldn't take long before some one would comment on my post lol. I know this is a controversial topic here on SW but race fuel is what should be run in 2-stroke snowmobiles ask any reputable engine builder. If you feel comfortable running avgas have at it.

Pure Logic and Attitude boxes are programmed differently. They run different parameters on boost fuel adjustment.

Pure Logic boxes let you adjust when your auxiliary injectors add fuel. Attitude activates the auxiliary injectors early in the fuel map and then adds fuel in collaboration with the primaries.
