overheating/check engine light?

hey there, Im kinda confused, but we were riding a while ago, and to get up into the alpine we had to ride 4 miles of switch backs up the side of the mountain, and the conditions were bad.... hard compact snow/ice

My sled, and my wifes dont have scratchers, and half way up my check engine light started to flash, let off the throttle, and it goes out

pulled off to the side, put what snow i could find along the lines, and heat exchanger, let it cool down, was good to go for a little bit and then it did it again, untill i got into the powder and then it ran fine, with no engine light flashing.

Now the reason im asking is cus my dash has a temp light ( temp symbol) but that never lit up, so im wondering was I really over heating or was it something else.

also a coulpe days into my ride I blew my seconday apart, and had to get towed back by my wifes m6, and half way home her engine light flashed for a bit on the same road, so im assume thats what comes on when you over heat!

whats the temp light for then?

thanks

My firecat did the same thing...until I put scratchers on!! Have not had one problem with overheating after:)

Check engine light is your warning before it gets to hot and the temp light will come on and you should shut down or things will go bad...I think that your motor will not let you burn down do to heat...but would not trust idiot lights!! get a temp gauge and install is a piece of cake and you can monitor your temps yourself!
