OT: clutch master cylinder

A shop replaced the clutch master cylinder on my 94 accord a couple of months ago. Last night i think it went out again (hard to shift, almost no clutch pedal rebound, etc) this seems a bit odd as the OEM one lasted 150K miles and the new one less than 3K.

could there be a bigger problem or was their fix not so good? thoughts?

Check the fluid level, maybe leaked out somewhere???

you need a clutch. The reason the pedal does not come back up is because there is something wrong with pressure plate. the fingers on the pressure plate push against the throwout bearing. If you push the pedal down and the no pressure against the pedal then it could be a hydraulic promblem.

True. Although you may be only in need as something as simple as bleeding the system. There is a very small amount of fluid in a clutch system (as compared to a brake system) There may be some air that has finally worked its way up to the master. It seems very strange that the master would go out so soon. If the factory clutch has 150k on it , you might to replace it anyway.

Has anybody checked the slave cylinder? Pull the boot back on the slave cylinder, i would bet it has fluid in it. I see it alot, put a new master on a old slave or vice versa and the other usually fails within a short period of time.

I have worked at a Honda dealer for 11 years. It is Very common on that year Accord for the slave and master to leak and the hose over by the transmission. Usually the master leaks first followed by the slave cylinder. The hose is rare, but I have seen it before. If anything leaks, the pedal won't return and the clutch will not work right.

Either way the OEM stuff is the best, it will last longer by far, so don't be surprised to have to replace the aftermarket sooner than you thought. Look above the brake pedal on the firewall where the master comes into the pedal. At the rubber boot with the pushrod you will see it leaking down or dripping. I know you said you found the leak, but check that also.
