options for the bending in half lightweight snowflap?

first stuck in set up snow and my flap is bent in half!!! wondering if anyone has just pulled it? without a heat exchanger needing the flap the direct snow onto it was thinking its just dead weight. hate getting stuck because the stupid flap is making me high center... maybe cut it in half???

noticed the same thing. imo ne sled needs a flap. haven't run one for ten years. mine is coming off before the next ride. for the rest of you who worry about stupid issues because you dont actually ride in the mountains, keep the anchor bolted to the back of your sled so i can use you as traction when your stuck. lmao.

i can see your a man willing to do anything to get another 10 feet up the hill:) had pulled mine on my M and you had to be very careful on hardpack, but the M has a rear heat exchanger...

yeah no ***** *****! He's an incredibly insightful member of the SnoWest community, a real valued asset. A plethora of knowledge and we should all look up to him. He's a 43 year old "grumpyoldbastard" with 4 total posts on snowest since 2007, and two of those posts have been incredibly negative and disrespectful.

Normally I dont get too excited over b.s. people say online, but according to him, most of us dont know how to ride in the mountains, or what a real mountain sled is, or have any business being out in the mountains.

I hope he rides my himself so no one ever has to be put in a dangerous situation and has to stick their neck out on the line for someone so arrogant and condecending like him. You're doin a great job bringing the snowmobiler community together "grumpyoldbastard".

I put the 2011 rear snow flap and carbon bumper on my 09 dragon and I ended up putting a piece of 1 1/2" grip tape on the bottom half of the grab bar, snow does stick to it but it is worlds better than just the ridonkulously slippery carbon bar. and I was invisioning a small stiff spring zip tied down each side of the snow flap that would make it still flex but not go all "boner" out like they are doing. bending right at the mold that keeps it off the bumper. its a great idea but it needs some refining

I really like the CoBe rear bumper... it bypasses the "stress riser" bump on the flap and distributes the load on the flap the entire width of the bumper... It still give the much needed feature of being able to grab the bumper with the flap fully buried.

I've tail-walked my sled with this bumper a few times on hardpack, had 3 guys yank it out of a creek bed by the bumper.... and it held up flawlessly.

Hey guys, I just got my Pro and was able to fit my CoBe rear bumper on it. It fits up great and just two additional holes need to be drilled plus removing the reflector. It works well with the stock ported snow flap and actually allows the flap to articulate more, therefore less drag. However, it is about 3/4 of a pound heavier than the Carbon bumper. The stock carbon bumper is cool so I am not bashing it, just offering another option.

Here are some pics plus a link to my post in swapmeet for purchasing info.

Thanks.

John

i wonder if you cut that bump out of the mudflap (the one that they put there to allow your to get your hands around the bumper) if it would work better, looks to me like a cobe bumper with the stock flap and bump cut out should work pretty well.

I would recommend everyone cut the bump off their flap. It is breaking the rear bumper due to the amount of PSI when the sled wheelies. I cut it out and it looks factory with all the other holes.

Unfortunatly I ride mine in Island park alot with my family. The first time we are heading down the trail to the deep stuff and I blow past my wife @ 60 and bean her with a chunk of ice in the gogggles, Well I am sure you ccan figure out what happens next. Anyone have a permanant solution that is Mountain and trail friendly?

Since the advent of the scratchers I don't think that any snow flap will keep ice chunks from coming off the sleds! Snowflaps are definitely not a catch all! Especially at 60mph! When I ride with my my family or anybody else for that matter I don't "Blow by them at 60 mph"

There is a stronger after market bumper availible at Highmark Rec. and Carls Cycle $120.00 direct bolt on.

cobe bumper looks like it's 80-90 dollars and bolts on, i'm ordering one and cutting the bump out of my mud flap that should take care of some drag and bumper breaking, also i was concerned about pulling with a snow bungee, i think this is the best solution i have come up with.

Consider replacing it with a functional flap from an older model. Be careful with after market bumpers. Keep in mind a rear exit with the front of the sled coming down and the bumper coming up between your legs! There is a reason all Snowmobile manufacterers, have the bumpers in the same location for all these years! There is a good Heavy Duty aftermarket bumper avalible from Highmark Rec. and Carls Cycle in Boise Id. So we add a couple lbs. back. u r still -38lbs. on your 2011
