Opinions on Side by Sides

I know Kim has a Razr, but I don't think that's what I'm wanting. I've got some younger boys (11, 8, 6, 4) who all want to go with me when I head up in the mountains. I'm thinking about a side by side that I can put a second seat in the back.

Opinions? I've looked at the Rhino and Prowler, they look like pretty good units. A friend has a Kawasaki and really likes it. I looked at the Rangers... boy are they proud of them. Can't figure out why they think they are worth $2k+ more than the other three.

What are you guys experience. I'm not going to use it for "sport"... not going to take it to the dunes or anything. For example, next month is our annual trip to the Henry Mountains to look at big muleys. Lots of riding around on dirt roads and spotting deer. I figure one boy in the front beside me and 2 in the back and the oldest can ride his own wheeler. That's the sort of use I'm going to put it to.

I know the rangers are really good machines have a few buddies with them. I know they sell alot better than the other brands and i think they look great. also resale is good on them too
 
I had a rhino and then a razor. I love the razor. You just have to buy the right back seat and cage.

I had a four seat Rhino. I put just under 3000 miles on it. Never had an issue. I wore out the back shocks and upgraded to some Marvin Shaw coil overs. My kids absolutely loved the machine. It was roomy enough in the back seat that a full grown man can be hauled around short distances and be somewhat comfy.
I like the Rangers as well. However a friend of mine just picked one up, and first ride out during the Elk hunt, it broke a front A-arm. Not sure of the circumstances, but there it is none the less.
The only thing I did not like about the Rhino, as mine was an 06' 660, is the intake was loud. Being it was right between the front seats. I heard the cured that with the 700's.
I also like the Kawi's, and have heard they flat get after the program...

Good luck. Our's was one of the funnest toys we have ever owned.

I've been around the UTV's a lot. For what you want it for I'd get a Teryx or a Prowler. I dont know if the class action law suit that was going on this summer over the rhino is finished yet, but that has really hurt yammi. I just dont like the yammi single cylinder. For all out brute power I'd get the Prowler 1000. The kawi v twin 750 is a good motor too. The prowler is the widest and heaviest I believe, similar to the Ranger. You can put 6 people in the range with a bench in front and rear. Probably 5 in the prowler with buckets in front and a bench in back.
 
I had a 700 XP Ranger and loved it. The only problem was it had a hard time getting through the trees, I went to an RZR and love it. The only problem with it safety wise is that if you are doing donuts you will tip it on it's side found that out the hard way along with every one else that I ride with.

I've rented out the Polaris ranger crew 700 for the last two years. Two seperate machines. Last year we put 2400 miles on it on the first machine. This years machine now has 3000 on it. Not a problem and they are great with kids. It's a pretty good workhorse too. I have pulled out stuck cars with it. It is a great machine. My 09 is currently for sale right now for $8700.

At Fast Track Polaris in Heber they have a couple of Rangers with 3 rows of seats.
 
Get a barely used Ranger,let someone else eat the depreciation. If your gonna stuff a bunch of people in it,you need a bench seat and some bedspace.We have had ours for almost 2 years now,rock solid,rides like glass,EFI is great,pulls the 2 place sled trailer with ease.Trust me you will find a hundred excuses to hop on and go for a ride.It IS wide,may not have the biggest motor(you can do an 800 kit on it though)but it flat out works !
 
I have 450 hours on my 2005 Ranger XP and it's been great. It has tons of storage, great 4wd. Only down fall is it is a bit wide and has no engine brake. It's not a racer but more of a cruiser - or a worker if needed. I can bring it to work if you want to check it out. I added 2 inch lift and some other goodies. Sit three across the bench with dogs in back.

Yamaha Rhino Custom 660 Long Travel Kit, Plow, Stereo -Over $20k Invested

If your interested in long travel - incredible machine, this unit is well set up and has all the extras you could imagine. It is such a fun machine and I hate to sell it but ready for another project.

This has 1,300 miles on it. Here's the extra parts and cost list:

1.Rhino new stock ($12,000 )

2. Extended roll cage with stock roof added over the front seats. ($500)

3. HELLA spot lights mounted on cage which are EXTREMELY bright. ($300)

4. Custom blue stitched front bucket Seats ($700)

5. Custom rear platform in bed and matching stitched seat ($750)

6. Custom painted white with a clear coat to match my truck. Very shiny and sharp looking ($700)

7. OEM black fender flares ($250)

8. Fabtech long travel kit with custom axles, reservior shocks, etc. This is sold by FULL THROTTLE in centerville for ($5,500.00). The kit makes these machine much wider and stable. You can literally take this anywhere and not worry about an accident. That's priceless to me. These kits are the only safe way to ride a rhino.

9. Rear view mirrors on each side ($100)

10. I have two 3 point harnesses for rear seat never installed that will go with machine. ($200)

11. Black Line 6ft steel blade snow plow from FULL THROTTLE with built in actuator, switch, and another winch like cylinder that lifts and lowers the plow with the touch of a button. Plow can pivot on angles and will move alot of snow. I can plow my driveway in 3 swipes, its literall 3 Minutes and Im done. ($1,800).

12. Custom receiver hitch made to mount plow and a winch on front of machine. ($650)

13. Factory Yamaha speaker sound bar with storage and speakers. Hooked up to 13. Factory Yamaha speaker sound bar with storage and speakers. Hooked up to nice CD deck with waterproof cover. Great to have tunes while cruising around. ($600)

Holy cow guys... some of you sure do spend some coin on your toys. If you were like me you'd just ride them stock. ;)

I'm going to rent a Rhino and give it a try and see if the side by side is all everyone says they are.

Here is something to think about, I was at the Pony Express Trail this week and found on several trails that the Forest Service had came in and changed the little brown trail markers. The new marker now has NO SIDE BY SIDES and then at the bottom it says closed to all vehicles over 50 inches there is a picture of a rino side by side with a red line through it. So is it all side by sides or is it side by sides over 50 inches. Some thing to watch in the future it seems the Forest Service is making trail closures with out following proper chanels,somethig they have been doing for sometime. Not a suprise
 
I don't know the answer but in the midwest it is a width limit. You can ride a side by side if it isn't too wide.

Up on the Squaw Peak road there is a gate that is set at 50". If you can fit through it you can ride on it.

I've been a passenger in a Rhino 660 and a Teryx. Both were pretty cool, but the Teryx got really hot from the engine heat between the two front seats. We raced a Ranger from a dead stop and then from a rolling 25MPH start and the Teryx still beat the Ranger by half to a whole length (both were stock and both had two fat, middle-aged guys in them). Both are great rides, I always recommend the EFI's if dealing with any mtn riding. So much elevation changing, EFI is the best way to go.
 
My buddy got a screaming deal on a near new Prowler. I drove it yesterday. It's pretty cool although underpowered in my opinion.

Lots of ways to spend my money that's for sure.
