Opinions on 09 HCR

Well, I'm thinking of bailing on Polaris and jumping ship to Cat.

I'm looking at an 09 M8 HCR and looking for pros and cons about the sled.

How does everyone like the extendable steering post? Seems like it could be a weak link.

Also wondering how well liked the Powder Claw on the HCR, 90 duro I think is compared to the 80 duro?

What mods are people having the best luck with on the M8's. I've talked to Kelsey at RK-Tek and was told they are in need of some porting. Also thinking of running Cutler's kit (pipes, head, porting, air intake, clutch kit, and attitude) anyone run this set up?

Thanks

Buy a regular snopro M8 with the 162. The HCR was/is overrated. It is specific for Hill climb racing up the moguls, no floats, wide ski stance (sh!tty for sidehillin"), short track and ugly stickers. I suppose it would be a good sled for hillclimb racing. If you get the chance go out and try both before you buy. I know 2 guys that wish they would have bought a snopro.......

Agree with slediot (aside from the 162, get a 141:rolleyes:)

We got an hcr & will be getting rid of the track somehow it's not all the 80 duro is, and the wide stance went bye bye right away... after that what do you have? An expensive snopro (without floats).

Wow all these haters. I rode the HCR on the trail, hillclimbing, boondocking, and big drops and i loved it. The wider stance felt stable at speed and really plush in the bumps. Takes alittle bit to get used to sidehilling but the M chassis is made to sidehill and it still does even with the wider stance. Since when is a 153 a short track? If you want to go straight up stuff then ya you quid go bigger. But if you wanna play in the trees, climb, jump, and just plain shred the 153 is a well rounded track size.
But it doesnt have Floats, so what I blew up two pair of floats this winter. You know what happens when they blow? They slam to the bottom and you have NO suspension. The Zero pros is an underrated shock. Iv used them for years and really like them with NO trouble, and with the Titanium springs the weight is about the same as the floats, maby a few grams heavier.
I was on spring conditions so I really liked the harder track, not sure about the powder though. Just because I didnt ride in real deep pow. Its a really fun sled, but maby alittle aggressive for the beginner rider...

The HCR is a great sled. It sidehills just fine. Put it in the narrow position and it works fine. I have both an 09 Snopro and the 09 HCR. Snopro is 153" track also. The track works just fine also. On those few days of the year that the snow is really deep and light the Snopro may work a little better, but not by much. Realistically the HCR track is a great all around track, IMO. While a perfect season is all deep and light snow, that is not what we always get. The HCR track will also lend itself to more HP, ie turbos. It will not lay over like the Snopros track. My Snopro has a turbo, so we have seen the comparison.

While the HCR is more expensive no doubt, they can be found now for reasonable prices. Is it "better" than the Snopro??? Tough call. They both work great IMO.

I have an HCR for sale that was set up by Cutlers, the only thing it doesn't have is porting and heads. Will make you a killer deal on it... need it gone before june... PM me if your interested.

Dont listen to the haters, The sled rocks and i have the video to prove it :D

Why are you selling?

I have one in mind a little closer to where I live.

Thanks though.

How much wider is the front stance on the HCR compared to the Sno-Pro?

I've had Polaris's with 166's, 163's and 155's. The 155 got around everywhere the 163 did. My riding style is boondocking with some hill-climbing. I'm not a chute climber or a big guy so I have no use for the 162 over the 153.

I like the fact that it has a little stronger track but is there any significant differance between the 80 and 90 duro tracks?

I'm still wondering about the adjustable steering post, How well people like or dis-like them. I thought that I read a thread on here awhile ago about a few having problems with them breaking.

I rode an M8 162 for the last 2 months of my season(Mid Feb. to Mid March) and loved being able to adjust the handlebar height. As for the Powerclaw I loved how when you nailed the throttle in the powder it would actually raise the sled up to the surface of the snow instead of just augering it in even more. Amazing track. The powerclaw track and the adjustable steering post will be on my M7 next season no doubt.
