Open trailer decking

So im getting tired of replacing my trailer decking ever 2-3 years so I was wondering if anyone has ever used expanded metal as a trailer decking alternative? It would allow the snow to fall through and not build up. I would put old bed liner down for ski glides and maybe a piece of old track down for traction? what do you guys think?

Expanded metal would allow more road grit to splash up on the sleds and may be more prone to collecting ice when driving on wet roads?

Maybe you could use regular exterior ply and coat it real well with floor paint, roll-on bedliner, resin, etc.

Seen one the other day the owner was happy with it.Might have just been hauling atv's though.

I was thinking about the road grime that would get thrown up as well. Im sure I could fab up some sort of fender or plate under the deck to keep most of it off of the sled. Idk Im just throwing around ideas because the trailer sits outside all year round and no matter what I do it doesn't last very long. Ive tried sealing the wood (never painted it), ive tried oil, but nothing seams to keep it lasting long and looking decent after about 2-3 years

ya the road grime comes right thru...dont do it. Up here you can get special plywood for decks with a plastic coating....suppose to work real well....check around and see.

Are you just using reguler plywood??? Treated ply will last a looooooooong time. Get the treated plywood for wood foundations. It has more treatment than "regular" green treat.

You may want to consider Line-X Protective Coatings. Line-X works wonderfully on trailer decks, both enclosed and open face. Because of its protective properties, Line-X holds up well to the abuse of carbides and heavy equipment and has been able to extend the life of wood, aluminum, steel, fiberglass & more for several years. Line-X can also be matched to any color. Click on the link to find out more information.
