SD Snowmobile Convention to feature Bret Rasmussen

DEADWOOD, S.D. (10/30/14) -- Backcountry snowmobiling legend Bret Rasmussen, coauthor of the “SCHOOLED” film series, will present a seminar on backcountry riding during the upcoming convention of the South Dakota Snowmobiling Association.

The convention is Friday and Saturday, Nov. 7 and 8, at the Lodge at Deadwood. Rasmussen’s seminar is 3 p.m. Friday, and non-members are invited to attend. The cost is $40 per person, and includes admission to the association’s Beer-N-Bull Dinner and Auction, which begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday. To reserve a seat, contact the association at SturgisSnoDrifters@hotmail.com.

The South Dakota Snowmobiling Association’s 45th annual convention, hosted by the Northern Hills Snowmobile Clubs, offers attendees a chance to see the latest gear and learn about trail development, public lands issues and other subject that affect the sport of snowmobiling.

More than 20 vendors will have the latest machines and gear on display at the trade show, which is open to the public. The trade show runs Friday from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Rasmussen, from Preston, Idaho, has six world championship snowmobile racing titles, and he teaches riding classes and seminars all over the world. Sometimes called “The Professor,” Rasmussen teaches a riding technique that he calls Rasmussen Style, which allows riders to reach the most isolated areas while maintaining control.

The convention is a mix of social events and business meetings. In addition, the Snowmobiler of the Year will be named during the banquet and awards program on Saturday night.
