One more electrical problem

I have a 97 700 and I put some bars off an 02 800 edge. The hand warmers dont work. My head light works great and so do the dash lights. When I check voltage at my hand warmer switch there is nothing there unless I switch my DVOM to AC voltage and then I have 12 volts. I check the voltage at my head light and it is the same. I my pretty sure they are supposed to run DC voltage but I dont understand how my headlight works. So any info would be great.

Warmers

Misconception that they put out DC, actually they put out AC. I know it doesn't make sense using 12 volt bulbs but that is what they put out. That is why the regulator is so simple. The newer Fuel Injected sleds have a more complex reg that changes to DC for the ECM.

As to you problem. Handle bar heaters have 3 way connector. The actual heater has 2 sets of windings. Low and medium. High is both at the same time. Check resistance between ground and each of the other leads. If no resistance then you have a break in one of the lines. If in the wires you may be able to fix it. If not then you will need to replace them.

Check the output from the switch too. You should see 12 V between ground and 1 lead on low and the other on med and both on high.
