One cylinder Axys

I think I lost the motor in my 16 on Sunday... Ran great the first 6-7 miles, then started missing. Then dropped a cylinder. I cleaned all the snow out and changed the plugs. Mag side was OK PTO side was fouled. Ran pretty good on the new plugs for a couple of minutes and dropped the PTO cylinder again. Plug was gas/oil fouled.

I have it home in the garage and the primary clutch turns over awfully easy. Seems like it lost compression. Never seized, doesn't make bad noises when you turn it by hand.

Dealer is closed Mondays so I will probably drop it off sometime today.

Sled is box stock, about 115 hrs on it. Summerized and on its 4th day of riding for the season. Warmed all the way up at home before I loaded it and again an hour later before riding it.

Any metal on the spark plug either time you changed them? Could be an injector issue too. Hope its an easy / quick fix! Eric

seat of the pants compression check. does it pull over evenly each cylinder hits TDC and it gets harder? Have someone pull it over and hold a finger over dead hole and see if it pops your finger off

Good luck in finding out what is wrong. I thought you were talking about a new sled and the 115 hours didn't register with me.

Since it is a new sled, did you accidentally double up on the oil that is typically added to the tank on a POO?

Some dealers will add the required oil and not tell you they already did and when you add it, VIOLA, fouled plugs.

Had PTO plug foul out on me several times during the first gas tank and I suspect it was my fault for adding extra oil when it was already in the tank by the dealership.

New sled? If I read right it says 115 hrs which should be about 2000 miles

Pull the head

I paid for an extended warranty so that is where it begins and hopefully ends.

I can feel compression on one side as your turn the primary, then it goes around 3/4 of a turn with almost no resistance.

Not a NEW sled, about 1200 miles on it. It did foul the plugs its first time out when new because of the excessive break in oil though.

Reeds would be nice... Never any sign of heat on the PTO side, just wet and oily. Still rolls over as quiet as new.

Mine is a 15 Pro-S switchback. Shorty, I know. But like all the good info you guys figure out better in the thinner air where it is more sensitive.

Anyways, around 1400 miles last spring, I had similar symptoms. Fouled same side plugs a couple times. So pulled rope and one side was a bit loose. Compression showed 124 and 112 think it was. Pulled block and was a stuck ring. Which was the top ring. Block was still nice as caught it early. Just threw in a new piston kit on that one side. Piston was still nice so burred off the ring landing where was stuck, will have to get a new ring kit for it. Good for in the tool bag on weekend camping trips towing a kamotik.

The motor is toast, PTO side all torn up, crap in the bottom end, mag side piston was at the max for clearance specs already around 1100 miles. Seems the piston issues remain...

Now I am in Polaris extended warranty world where Polaris tries to screw your dealer without any lube. The motor is torn down, pictures sent and the clowns him and haw about replacing it. Forces them to make a complete list of parts they need before submitting the claim. They don't get paid enough for all of this BS. WAKE UP POLARIS! You NEED the dealers, WE NEED the dealers. If this is how it is going to be, and it takes 6 weeks to get my sled fixed, it will be my last Polaris for a while. Just plain BAD business...

Sorry to hear of your issues.

Isn't the extended warranty a service contract sold to a 3rd party aftermarket company?

I didn't think Polaris was involved with the extended warranties unless it's the "2nd year engine warranty" only??

Between stock and boosted I have seen a few PTO pistons coming apart. The mag have all looked fairly good. Wonder why the PTO is running leaner/hotter?

It's not just polaris bad warranty, ski-doo is the same, most of the g4 850 owners in our area are finding out.

I figured this out a few years.... Get the best pricing you can get, with the least amount of warranty, then NEVER take the sled back to the dealer! Its not worth all the time wasted. They dont bother diagnosing the issue, they just throw parts at it. When you have a failure and the OEM's need to approve repairs, get ready to waste a BUNCH of time. I know not everyone can do this, but if you can, your far better off. Eric

Sent both sets 2016 cylinders in for HG7 honing from Indy Specialties.

Both cylinders were out of spec and were re nicasiled.
627 miles and 1200 miles.

If you have cylinder nicasil lining redone, clean out your exhaust valve chamber ports. Nicasil migrated into my ports and caused exhaust valves to hang up.
