Hi fellow Hawkers,
I've had this idea after I tried sledr2's Kawahawki and it's been tickling me since '99, since I had all my 125 YZs & KXs : Short stroke twsit throttle. Made some researches, I found some on the net, not being sure if it would fit or not plus the price.
Have a look at what I've done, after testing it, last week end, i'd say THIS IS A MUST ergonomically for your wrist. Stock twist throttle is 1/4 of a turn - great for beginners or girlfriends, for most of us : Too long. Add TWO layers (not 3 like the photo, as it will interfere in the housing) of ty-wrap glued with a good plastic glue (I used Krazy glue) to your twist throttle tube where the cable rolls onto and you're gonna be good to go. You'll get about 1/5-1/6 of a turn stroke which is peeeeeerfect !
I couldn't beleive how that little mod turned my Hawk into a flying missile... Ski off the ground on the trail as soon as I hammer it ! Hooooly snap, totally different attitude ! The RKT 800 drop in kit motor now has 6 hours put on and really turned out great powerwise. Right now, my hawk is just a frightening bullet that I dearly love, partly because of that little, almost stupid mod !
As I said, I was concerned in the past that I wasn't using all the stroke on my twist throttle. I can now say, Yes, I wasn't using all the stroke ! But NOW I USE ALL OF IT ! Seemed like I released 10 horses !
Can't be cheaper of a mod than that. Do it you won't regret it !
