On the cheap

budget minded build. I have found several yz450f for 3k or under. While I am sure they have good power for the job am I going regret having to kick start? what if you had a 4 k bike budget would you build? I plan to buy a new sx kit. I should also point out I weigh in at 250lbs and they guy I try to follow weighs in at 165...lol

The only negative to the 2010+ YZ is the front intake. Normally it's not a big issue, but on powder days it can be a pain to constantly have to clean it out. If you don't keep your air flowing the bike will become poppy and hesitant from being super rich.

You should be able to find a 2009+ CR/KX for around $4,000. I have no problem with my kick start at all and I don't miss electric start one bit. Sure, after getting yourself out of a hole it would be nice to just hit a button, but that's about it for me.

If I was going to get a kickstart, (mine is a E-start) it would have to be fuel injected. Not sure if a bike in the 3K range would be FI ?? If it wasn't, I would say yes you would get very tired of kicking...

If you could, find a FI bike for a kicker.. I ride with several guys that have kickstarts which are FI and they can start them by pushing on the kickstart with there hands.

A lot of guys have just a kick start. Electric start is nice but not needed if you are looking to save money. Any 450 will work fine. Get a bike you will be happy with using all year. Every brand will need a few things to make them work better in the snow. All the info is on this forum. Where are you going to be riding? Are you planning on racing? You may be better off getting the ST kit and will save you a lot of money. The SX kit will not work as well in deep powder but will be better in bigger bumps and set up snow. Something to think about.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the 08 RMZ 450 was the first fuelie and you could get one of those in your budget. I don't know if they are any good or not.

I have the 08 rmz450 and it is fuel injected. the engine is solid and runs good. I have the engine in area51 running a 136x15 track. Think i paid 3800 for the bike last spring and it was very nice condition.

I'm really surprised there aren't more RMZs out there. I hear they are great bikes.

I will be riding out of Cle ellum for those that know the area 2k- 5k elevation see alot of timber riding and a fair amount of powder during the good part of the season. I demoed on a sx track would I be happy with the st? I hear there is no real clear advantage to the LT so i was going to steer clear of that.

A couple weeks ago my buddy who is over 200 lbs and rides a ST and rides very well, rode a SX kit for the day in fairly deep snow and he did not like it, he was begging to get his ST back, he had to poach tracks alot of the day. At your size, you may prefer the ST over the SX.

If all I rode was the deep soft powder I would have the LT. I'm honestly still on the fence about it's advantages and will be waiting to see how this spring pans out for my LT buddies. With the right bike the LT can be quite the beast. All the 511 Husky guys seem to love it since the torque on that bike spins the track up to revs quick.

One thing to keep in mind... there is NO place the LT will go that the ST can't.

Hmm well I still have a back door deal brewing on the 511 I was going to buy to begin with. I refuse to buy it from Ride motorsports but the sister company is I-90 motorsports and they are the people who took me on the demo ride, so if I -90 can sell me the bike rather than Ride I think I am in buisness. I am scared of it only being electric start but I just need to get over that I know I can always find a way to get it started.

I wouldn't worry about E-start only. I was nervous of that myself at first but with an upgraded battery, I have plenty of juice and my bike is carbed, the FI bikes start even better with E-start.

I carry a set of jumper cables I made from a cord but haven't needed them. When I can I also throw a trickle charger on after a day of riding. I rode 3 days last weekend without charging the battery and never had any sort of issue.

thanks man! I want this 511 in a bad way but sometimes if the deal is not right you just gotta walk away. We will see what happens. I did just find a private owned 2012 kx450f for 5k so if the 511 falls through I know where to go

any is better than none

it seems like all the 450's work pretty damn good, the fi bikes do seem to run cleaner on the really deep days, but i know plenty of guys that have carbed bikes that work awesome, i thin the main thing is just find one you can afford and ride the piss out of it!
