OMG another weather forecast 26FEB to 2MAR

SOCAL forecasters are stating the prediction for a MAJOR storm has been increasing for the past several days.

Central California forecasters are "holding off" until they are "absolutely certain" which may prediction might be reality.

There is a 3 phase storm approaching the west coast

Right now phase 1 and 2 are tracking south of Kern county ... LA San Diego

Phase 3 is tracking Kings Canyon ... central California just south of YOSEMITE

Phase one WED-THUR 26-27 FEB gonna cool down up to an 1/2 inch rain

Phase 2 FRI-SAT 28 FEB 1 MAR snowfall PREDICTED SOCAL starting at 6000 feet

1-2 inches for land 2-4 inches water for mountains SOCAL predicting several feet snow for BIG BEAR mountains

Phase 3 MAR 2-3 scattered showers for SOCAL... central and north no prediction quite yet.

Mammoth weather DWEEB GURU says he will review potential storm in detail Monday 24 FEB

If this happens it is a common storm for SOCAL this time of year.

LOL, love the opening statement Don. However, I have recently found that this years weather forecasts are a lot liking listening to Obama. One thing is said and predicted, and a whole different thing usually happens! :) Actually, on second thoughts, the forecasts are probably more reliable....Obama is just worthless. Hope this storm pans out!!

Since I originally posted the estimated water level for the county I live (Ventura) has gone from 5 inches to 4 inches BUT more importantly Tahoe has gone from 3.5 to 4 inches of water.

Most of the water here in Ventura just flows into the ocean yet TAHOE water is very useful first for snow then to drink !!!

WHAT WHAT are reimbursements for CPT codes getting cut yet again ? March is approaching.

The infamous cut and paste Mammothweather.com forecast ... EDITED WITH HIGHLIGHTS

Fair Weather, w/slightly warmer than normal temps through Tuesday with periods of high clouds and light winds….Break-through of the Westerlies looking more likely for later next week…..

.

Sunday 23 FEB Morning:

MJO has made the jump to Phase space 7…thus unleashing the power of the Extended Asian Jet toward the west coast! All models working nicely together to bring the upper jet on shore over South Central California Wednesday night. CRFC just painted .70 to .75 for storm #1 with the snow level beginning about 7500 to 8000 Wednesday 6inches to a foot; then during the major part of the event Wednesday night to Sunrise Thursday the snow level will be between 6000 and 7000 feet lowering to 5000 by the time most of the precip is over about Sunrise Thursday. Expect snow showers Thursday afternoon and evening, with little if any accumulation.

Storm #2 is still favoring the Southern Sierra and Southern California with what appears to be the best storm of the Winter for Southern CA! We here on the east side of the sierra will still get some good snowfall amounts. However in this case, snowfall amounts 1 to 3 miles east from the sierra crest will fall off faster than the first storm because the upper jet is so far south coming in over LA/San Diego. The Upper Flow at 700MB is due South Friday PM and so it is not orographically favorable. Nevertheless, the MAMMOTH area crest will get between a foot and two feet 27-28 FEB as there is more moisture in this system.

Again….What is interesting is that storm #1 has less moisture, however, it is orographically more favorable as the winds at 500mb and 700mb are SW or natural to the sierra. It is possible that we here in town may do about the same from the wetter storm Saturday as compared to the Wednesday night storm.

Where will the big amounts be????? In the Southern Sierra, and Mountains around Southern Ca. This may be the first precipitation for parts of the desert South West like Phoenix, AZ this winter.

Feds don't have much say in reimbursement from private health insurance. Maybe in Medicare, but it only goes up with time, not down, due to inflation. Either way, we try to avoid insurance companies in most cases. And generally changes are made the first of the year.

Biggest Storm in Two Years bears down on Southern Ca….Sierra Braces for Major Dump……

.

I have not seen this much open cellular CU between 30N and 40N since the winter of 2011! It’s nice to see it happen again! All systems are go for one heck of a storm for Southern California Ca. The recent burn areas of my hometown in Glendora should take extra precautions now by sandbagging areas around homes below canyons.

The latest QPF is up to 8.5 inches from the latest HPC output in some of the coastal ranges of Pt Conception and the foothills of both valleys. There may be more rain in “some areas” that has fallen in two years down there.

So again the big story will be the enhanced Asian Jet that is making its way through the far eastern pacific. Both the EC and GFS is painting about 3 to 4 inches of water up on the Mammoth Pass. And if it were not for the best forcing to the south of us, this would be one of the EPIC and memorable 4 to 6 foot dump. Well instead have to settle for 3 to 4 feet over the crest and a couple of feet in MAMMOTH town by weeks end. There is the chance that snow showers may continue for sometime after the storm is through Saturday, so that several more inches could accumulate over the upper elevations throughout the weekend and even a few into the following week.

There are two separate storms. A smaller storm Wednesday night in which the town will get 5 to 8 inches and the biggie Friday AM through Saturday 12 to 15 inches will fall. Approximately double that for the Crest…..

OUTLOOK:

I see a small system about the middle of next week, mainly effecting Tahoe, then we ridge up for the following weekend of the 8th…..

After that well see…….

Wow very impressive low pressure system hitting ALL of California.

No high pressure anywhere.

Several days ago was centered to San Diego County ... now centered Orange LA county bring 14-20 feet waves to southern facing beaches Saturday 1 MAR.

Since it has been shifting north rain and snowfall amounts are increasing north of Los Angeles up thru Oregon.

Phoenix is expected to get 3 plus inches of rain in 4 hours.

Some mountain area south of Mammoth is gonna get a dumping above 8000 feet.

prog24hr.gif

Low pressure system off SAn Fran California at 28.5 is equivalent to a Cat 1 Hurricane

Expect wind gusts over 70 MPH thru mountain passes.

Computer models are validating at 90% confidence meaning predictions so far are accurate and the storm is behaving exactly as planned.

Pacific shoreline to get pounded 3 to 9 AM Friday 28 MAR 3-6 inches rain in a few hours.

Parts of Oregon and Wash may get 8 inches of rain next 24 hours 28 Feb Friday

Most intense time of storm projected to be Friday morning for the entire state of California.

Storm to be warm coming from the south so south slopes gonna get some rain and snow.

mammoth forecaster increasing snow amounts.

scattered showers / snow Fri-SAT expected Sunday 2 MArch AM

Please check local temps to determine snowfall level.

SOCAL expected 7k then fall to 6K up to 2-5 feet snow in Big Bear Mammoth says 2 feet in town and 4 feet at lodge BUT rain will be in town during the day and change to snow at night.

Daytime high temps @ 7,000 feet after storm to be above freezing until next quick 8 hour storm dusting of couple inches POSSIBLE Thurs 6 MAR

So based on what is happening up to now go ride SUNDAY.

Northern Idaho getting over 3 feet snow , West Yellowstone area over 4 feet , Colorado over 3 feet as the storm moves inland

At midnight massive H2O dump from Big Sur to San Jose next 4 hours and whats left gonna slam into the Sierras

Windy here and warm in the high 50's at 1000 feet Ventura County.

See snow in Pahrump NV

Snow patchy up the Sierras

Many major storm cells on the west side of the Sierras dumping over an inch of H2O an hour.

Forecasts still predicting lots of water.

Cold front to move thru today Friday 28 Feb14

Water amounts for California / Nevada / Oregon / Idaho / Colorado / Washington all increased for this storm since estimated yesterday 27 FEB

Mammoth temps lower than yesterday with highs about 32 in town Friday 28 FEB 14 ... I'm implying colder temps may increase snow amounts or lower snow levels . Storm to be gone by late Saturday with day temps in the high 30's Sunday 2 March and 40F Mondays 50's on Tuesday at 8000 feet Mammoth

Main (center) part of extreme low pressure storm along with a cold front to move onto land Saturday morning creating most intense concentrated moisture
