OK, which one of you was this?

NEVER!!!! NEVER!!!! put a kid on a sled without a helmet! ANY sled! I don't care if it is a 120 cruising around the yard!

100% with ya Kimbro! Now that being said I almost, talking nats *** here did the same thing with my daughter once. Pretty sure me staying on the goat was right there with Moses parting the Red sea!

Yep, saw that article earlier this morning. I can't tell you how many times I see that happen up at the Lodge. We always tell them don't put your young kids in front of you on the sled. Sure enough every year we see one or two that do and their 5 year old (or 2 or 3 year old, etc etc) reaches up and grabs the throttle! Worst one actually didn't injure anybody but the sled bounced off a couple of cars, then hit the corner of the cabin knocking the propane line off the cabin. That was a costly bill for them....a couple wrecked cars, a wrecked snowmobile and about half a tank of propane that we lost. Glad nobody was smoking when it happened.

I had this happen in Idaho with my boy. As I was falling off the back I reached up and grabbed the back of his coat and pulled him off with me. Then as the sled started down the hill through the trees I did the run, leap, drag myself up and grab the brake.

It was exciting and never repeated again.

Serious ? here.
What helmet do you use for a 3 year old to keep them safe and warm, and what other option do you have since they can't see or hold on from the back?
I usually just ride around the house, but would like to take my daughter for a real ride.

My 5 year old was able to wear a youth small when he was 2, but he has a HUGE head. He now wears an adult xs. I still run my boys around in front of me on my sled around the yard and once or twice a year when we go out on the mountain with them. They are under strict rules that they only hold onto the mtn grab bar. If they break that rule the ride is over and we go home. I also do not leave my sled idling when they are around and always set the parking brake. A burnt belt is much better than a hurt child or damaged sled(s). My rule of thumb as well is that if a helmet won't fit them, then they shouldn't be on the machine. I don't allow my renters to run a child in front of them.

Just a suggestion.

Saw that happen once upon a time, kid pinched it off, went right into back of the truck. Never heard such a narly death howl in my life... ended up with a broken hip and lost the will to ever ride a sled again. Good times...

Im not going to get on my soap box, maybe just for a second helmets save lives period! Dont ever put yourself in that scenerio what if. I almost killed a good friend at the dunes, without question he would be dead without his helmet. I think the same logic goes for the seatbelt debate if you are out cold and your car is burning or sinking, being out cold is better than being dead, wich if your out cold with your seat belt on your more than likely dead without it. Manditory helmets at my house "riddle me this" (hangover) do you wear a helmet to keep you safe from your lake of skills...or the other guys lack of skills?
