Oiling your air filter?

Of all the intake talk, I don't recall anything being said about running the filter dry, or oiling it. Last year I ran mine dry. Would oil stop the fine snow dust, and plug up the filter until you stopped and brushed it off? I would think these engines can take in some snow dust and not miss a beat. Snomobiles don't have any air filtration, so they must take in snow?

No oil

I see no reason for oiling the foam filter.
One of our group last season had no foam filter and just ran the pre filter. Did not see any issues with his bike.
If my SX kit used the stock air box, I would pull the foam and give it a try.

I just ran the prefilter over the cage on the burg. Oil and filter are to keep dirt out of the engine. You shouldn't be riding much dirt with a MH

I would be more concerned with all the road crap and salts and sand if you open trailer getting the pod filters and air box opening contaminated ,I see in the swap meet thread theres a fancy snow bike specific cover made at a reasonable price .

Have been looking for the mentioned covers for sale. No luck.

Good point Vmax about road grime. I plan on one of those covers too, for when I haul in the back of a pu.

OuterWear pre filters come in all sorts of sizes , your local shops should be able to get the correct size , snow is far from clean and boondocking threw trees hold forest fire ash and even wore volcanic ash . The sledding industry is finally wising up and putting on a better filtration system like the bikes .
