oiler adjustment

Oil Pump

The only thing I have ever done is make sure the little marks on the shaft to the pump body are aligned per the service manual. I guess I never have checked the full stroke assuming that the travel is designed in to the cable travel of the carbs.

x2. Yep, that's all you need.

The service manual marks are a safe default setting, but way too rich. It is really helpful to know the ratio you are using by filling the gas and oil up to the top and seeing how much you use after each ride. I aim for 50 or 55-1.

That means that you are at 35-1 at full throttle and 60-1 at lower throttle settings.

I fill a ratio rite cup with 16 ounces of oil and see how much it takes to refill the oil reservoir. There are 128 ounces in a gallon of gas (or anything)

If you take 6.5 gallons to refill the gas tank, x 128 ounces, or 832, divided by the imaginary 15 ounces of oil you refilled, you'd be at 55-1.

Some people premix, and that is predictable, but you are running a lot of oil at part throttle, and a marginal amount at WFO. The variable rate system really is a good thing, and failure is rare.
