oil

I went for a 30 mile ride today and when i got back to the truck my oil was all the way down to the return line. Are you guys using this much or am i running rich?
If your talking about the hose that connects to the bottle about 1/2 way down, and is routed down between the cylinders to a brass fitting on the front of the engine just above the oil pump..... it's not a return line. This is how the cross shaft is lubricated.

If your oil level quickly drops to this level you have one of 2 problems:
#1- The brass fitting I mentioned is leaking. They are known to leak or even pop right out.
#2- One or both of your center crank seals are leaking allowing the oil which is supposed to stay in the cross shaft cavity to get into the engine.
With #1 you should be able to see the leak, with #2 your engine will burn the excess oil until the level in the bottle gets below where this hose connects to the bottle.

The easy thing to check is to locate and inspect the brass fitting for leaks. Just look down between the Y-pipe and you can see. Let me know what you find, and I'll try to help.

Oh, and just for comparative purposes... my 900 goes through about 1 liter of oil per tank of fuel burned.

And the oiler cable info is great in that thread, I forgot to mention that part, thanks 06900RMK

Are we talking about an 05 or 06 tank?

My 06 on an aggressive 40 mile ride will be at the water pump cavity hose/oil line outlet of the tank. I run my oil pump turned up a little.

My oil is filled BEFORE every ride.
