oil usage on 09 xp

my friends new 154 09 xp is useing a ****load of oil. we went arounf 60 miles 2day and when we got bac to the trucks he was almost empty. is anyone haveing this problem because its pretty ****ty that he has to bring waterbottles of oil just 4 a day.

The XP's love the oil. I go through at least a quart per ride. Better too much than too little in my opinion.

Take it in and get it adjusted. On all my past Doos they used a lot of oil, so I adjusted them myself until it was acceptable....my 09 is actually good.

Oil light too

I only have about 100 miles on my 09 and same result. Yesterday put on about 60 miles and used over 3/4 tank of oil. Also everytime I let off the throttle the oil light would come on and stay on until I hit it again. Anyone else have the oil light and beeping?

Read my post above. Regarding the low oil light and beeping, when aiming downhill I get that a lot once the tank reaches about the 1/2 marker or lower, if you check your oil level before each ride then you know you can just disregard these warnings.

my 09 uses about 1/2 gallon per tank. it sucks, expecially when they want 50$ a gallon!!!, i get the light and beeping to i just make sure its full and ignore it for the rest of the day!!

I have just turned 400 miles on my 09 xp and finished off the first gallon of oil for the season

My 09 seems to use about 1 quart per tank of fuel so that's about the same as all my other sled. I would say that you need the cable adj.

Oil usage 09 XP

Same. 1 gallon oil to 3/4 or less tank of gas. Sled still under 10 hour/100 mile break in period. Will be patient until then.

Adjusting the cable...

The best thing you could do to stop using too much oil is actually adjusting the throttle freeplay.

When you depress the throttle and you feel the slides just starting to open, look at how much freeplay you have in the throttle cable. That is actually opening the oil pump that much before the slides, and that much more at WFO.

Best to have only 1/8" throttle freeplay (between throttle lever and throttle housing) and adjust the oil pump cable (behind the exhaust can and foam panel) to 16.5mm of gap when the slack is taken out of the throttle cable. That is Ski-Doo's spec., but you could probably go as much as 17.5-18mm of exposed cable.
