Ok i have been using redline syn oil and that stuff is not cheep...i was using a ton of oil so i looked into the problem and found that my cable to the pump is bent somewhat and making the pump stay at about 1/2 on after you let off the throttle...is this common for the zx it is a 2002 800. Is that why some guys or gals go with the pump delete?? or should i just buy an new cable system or can i put a extra spring to the pump to pull it back after i straighten the cable? thanks for any help...

on my 2000 the cable end fell off while i was re-adjusting it one day (in the driveway -thank god)...i wouldn't add a spring- cause you'll probably start wearing the shaft excessively and end up with a leaky and/or vapour locking pump or something goofy-imo...change out the cable or do the delete & mix option (if ya feel like yanking out your engine etc -just remember to lug around extra oil in case you have to mix more on the trail side if you burn up all "your" mixed gas-lol!)
while you're in the neighbourhood- you should put some "tie wraps" as hose clamps around the small oil lines on the injectors/pump if you haven't already....i've seen too many 800 cranks blown by oil lines falling off (especially the ones on the injectors:face-icon-small-sho)-for a cheap peace of mind...:face-icon-small-coo

I found a ball point pen type spring about 2 inches long at an surplus store. I threaded it over the inner cable so it pushes on the arm and the outer cable. It adds just enough extra pressure to move the arm back to the "idle" position. Now my oil usage is back to where it should be.

Not many have this issue, most are just an adjustment issue. You could add a SMALL spring, and probably replace the cable, or go with pre-mix.

You don't have to pull the motor, you can get all the parts right from Ski-doo, and for extra oil, you can go down to any chainsaw shop or lawn and garden store and they sell small containers of oil that are are the right size to be mixed with either 1 gallon or 2.5 gallon containers. You can get them in all ratios, and if you don't trust that oil, dump it out, fill it with Redline, and throw it in your bellypan.

Remember that at 10 gallons, 40:1 is one quart. super easy, gonna do mine this summer.
