Oil pump went out turbo bearings shot.

M-7 running the oil from the oil injection pump (BD setup) to the turbo. Had a hard time building boost. I checked the turbo blades and they were spinning a little rough. So then I disconnected the oil line coming into the top of the turbo and started the sled and no oil came out of the line. Has anyone else had this problem with this pump setup? I have been running this sled for 3 years and this is the first problem I have had of this kind.
 
I narrowly avoided a similar problem. For other reasons, I had to pull my motor and split the case. We then found that the gears on the cross shaft that runs both the oil pump and water pump were very worn. In my case, if the gears would have failed it would have taken out the motor and turbo. I would strongly suggest making sure that those gears are good. It is a pain and a little expensive (pulling the motor, new gaskets, pressing the gears, etc...), but since the turbo is down anyway, I would at least check this out before running the sled again. By the way, I went with the electric pump and put a delete plate on the block.
 
next time put a 0-15psi fuel gauge in the dash so you can always see if your pump is working, it will cost about $40 for everything you need, cheap insurance i think
 
An oil pressure switch and an led light is simple insurance to know if your pump in running or not.
 
ya for sure get ya a guage from summit they are cheap vs a new turbo i mounted mine right on the shrowd that covers the gas tank that way i can always watch it
 
I installed a clear line to the oil feed on the turbo... Pretty easy way to see if its working, and you can see how your oil looks.
 
My line filter was clogged solid. It was not my pump. Now I just need to figure out how much it hurt the bearings.
 
I experienced a filter clog caused by the adhesive foil material employed to seal oil containers under the cap. Be mindful when you poke, stab, tear or cut that from your new jug of lube...
 
Safety switch

I dont know why these kits dont come with something like this. It costs about $15.00 and is foolproof. I use 2 LED's to be safe in case one burns out. Now I never worry about the oiling and who needs another guage?

I like your idea...Where did you find the pressure switch?
How much pressure does it take to turn it on? Can't be much!!
 
Pressure switch

I believe the switch is rated for about 1 - 3 lbs. Make sure you get a dual prong one. This is only a single so i had to ground the 3 way coupler. Bought most of the parts from napa and the LED light is from the source. Bright red light comes on if the oil pressure is low. It will actually flicker on idle so i know the pump is pumping. I put 2 lights on the dash in case one burns out. Run your 12v to the light and the ground will come through the switch and up to the other terminal in the light.
 
Could you tell what material caused the plug? Knowing would help all of us.

It was metal shavings. But where they came from I do not know. Maybe the bearings in the turbo. Maybe left over from making the tank and they finally worked there way into the filter.(3 years is along time for that) It is not the top of an oil jug as someone thought (good idea) Pump is running fine on the bench so the turbo is the only other place.
