Oil Pump - PERC

Does the oil pump really factor into adding PERC to a sled older than 2003. My understanding is that the 2003 big block sleds came with the reverse pump already installed. Kits I have seen for the samll block seem to include a new pump as well.

For the short time that the sled is in reverse, can it really harm the motor?

I have always swapped out the oil pumps just for insurance. It would probably ok, But I have jumped off mine and left it running in reverse.

yes/ no..

YEs i would and DID on my 800 in the gen II

it your money either spend on a oil pump NOW or a Crank and Motor Later Your Pick!!

my .02

I put one on my 2002 700 just to be sure along with new oil lines (the old ones were rubbed thin in spots). One thing I noted when I was bleeding the new lines is that the oil only moves about an inch every 15 seconds with the oil pump cranked on full at idle. So depending on how big of bubble you get in the line from running in reverse, it could take quite a long time to move all the way through. I recommend pre-filling the oil lines if you put on a new pump.

A question about oil pumps. Does anyone know how to test the flow on an oil pump so you can determine if you are getting the right ratio? I guess I could measure how much oil I put in it and how much fuel I used. I ask because I've seen it mentioned that the mixture can vary even though the pump bellcrank is lined up correctly.
