oil pump no worky!!??

just rebuilt 2 yamaha ventures (500, 600) and installed new oil pumps on each machine. both machines are running great however the 600 is not using oil!!! however the 500 is using oil. i was checking the levels during the first few rides and was running mixed fuel as a fail safe. before i pull the pump again are there other checks i should do? do the pumps need primed? if so how? thanks

You need to bleed them. There's a screw right on the top of them that you back out until oil runs out of it, then tighten back up. I can almost guarantee the 600 has the oil system airlocked.

Your wallet is thanking you that you ran premix until you were sure they were using oil...

Those also have a tongue and groove kind of drive, they used to corrode and break, the drive side is a shaft with a slot cut in it and the oil pump shaft fit's into it
The drive used to break the sides off and the oil pump wouldn't spin
Might be your problem
