oil pump adjustment 08 700

So i have read the increasing your IQ sticky and alot of other threads on this but still wondering about somethings. My 08 D7 is running on the rich side so after reading all this i thought i would adjust it. Now in the service manual it says the pointer on the arm should be set level with the line, looking at mine it is already set alittle below the line. I believe i want to adjust the line a little looser to make it leaner, correct?? And second, this isn't a real easy thing to do on the trail or anything so does anybody know a way to figure out if you have gone to lean or to rich besides throwing it all back together and just running it? Thanks for any help.

1 1/4 TO 1 1/2 turns on the 10mm jam nuts takes you from 37:1 to 57:1

So if you know for sure you were running rich, give it a 1/2 or full turn at home, then check it on the trail, and if it's light on oil,(which you probably won't be, but just in case) throw some oil into the tank at fill-ups until the end of the trip.and re-adjust when you get back home.

Is putting oil in the gas tank of a CFI sled after the break in period a good preventative thing if necessary? How much per tank? I just had my oil pump arm adjusted and will be watching oil usage/checking plugs closely as well.... I thought I read somewhere that this practice negatively affects the injectors/octane level or something?

I'm suggesting to add oil to the tank only in an emergency situation, in the event the O/P over-adjusts and now he's running 100 miles down the trail and only used a shot glass of oil and no tools to re-adjust the oil pump out on the trail.

1/2 quart to 10 gallons would be 80:1, that would be enough as a supplemental amount.

That would LEAN out your fuel mix by a whopping 1 1/4 %

That's like going from a 500 main jet to a 495

Kraven,
Thanks for the info. I agree with yeah, i doubt i will be too lean. I was kinda just hoping there was some neat little trick to see what you might be running at without having to go through the hole process! when you set your at 1 1/4 turns was the pointer preset at the mark? And i think i'm right in saying you want to make that turn to loosen the cable correct? Thanks

Yes, loosen it

Mine was reasonably close to be on the mark when it was 37:1

If you think about it, a little adjustment (meaning 1 1/4-1 1/2 turns) moves the ratio a lot, meaning a full 20 points (37:1-57:1)
