OIL on my garage floor!

So I have noticed black oil dripping from the belly pan of my 09 D8 and found that it is coming from the bottom of the exhaust valve solenoid. It's actually quite a bit. I use almost an entire tank of oil on a hard day burning a tank and an additional gallon and a half (at least the light comes on). What is causing this? Over oiling? If so what ratio should I get it down to.

Thanks!

The oil coming out is normal, the when the EV solenoid is open it allows exhaust gases/oil to pass thru that hose. As far as oil usage, you simply have to manually calculate your oil ratio over a period of several rides before making any adjustments to the oil pump and then afterwards to make sure that you don't lean it out too much. If you are in the 35 or 40 to 1, I wouldn't mess with it.

Some guys are putting a small catch bottle to hold the excess oil drippings.

I'm going through a similar issue. Sled is going through oil at a rate of about 16:1. The IQ service manual isn't very comprehensive on setting these pumps correctly. SD Coyote did some brain storming for me and came up with something. Seems they left out a very important part that is located in the EDGE service manual.

Verify that the oil pump alignment lines are aligned at the point where the carburator slides begin to raise from their resting positions. Note: Marks may not line up without throttle engagement.

This is critical when setting the pump as you will find that most pumps will not fully return to the starting point without snapping the throttle. They tend to hang up for some reason. So, you basically want the pointer and line to line up when the throttle bodies first begin to move.

I try to shoot for about 50:1 mix ratio. If I had to guess I would say you are closer to 20 or 24:1.

There is a drain line that runs from the soleniod down into the belly of your bulkhead, that is the line that a catch bottle could be installed on. However, if you roll your sled that bottle will dump and make a mess. Just let it drain naturally, it shouldn't be draining very much anyway. You can just take a rag and clean down there occasionally.
