Oil injection system issue

Hello,

I have an issue with my '11 Pro RMK 800(163")

Complaint: After starting the engine for the first time since parked last spring, the engine/exhaust smoked excessively followed by a significant puddle of oil that formed on the floor under the exhaust outlet..........Oil was also found in the bottom of the chassis bulk head which was noted to be coming from the y-pipe/main pipe connection.............

Inspection: The injection tank oil level is significantly lower than when it was parked in the spring(suspect close to 1 liter/quart).............After starting the engine & bringing it to operating temp. several times the oil appears to have cleared out of the crankcase & exhaust system and the oil level in the tank appears to be maintaining..................

I'm assuming that the oil flooded into the crankcase over the summer through a stuck/leaking check valve at one of the injection points but then wondered about the possiblilty of a leaking input shaft seal on the injection pump??? :face-icon-small-con

Anyone ever run into this before???

Thanks in advance for any input,

Glen

Glen,
Might be a pain in the rear end but the way to see which check is leaking--- Plug the intake boots and exhaust and do a leakdown on the seals --see which check valve air is coming from.. or get a small hose and put it on each oiler check valve and try and suck through it with your mouth. Otherwise it may be the seals. Hope this helps

My buddy has a 700 that does this as well so I'd be interested to hear about it...

The good news for you is your never going to have rusty crank bearings with all that oil down in your crank.....

Mine does this too, only after exteneded periods of sitting, have not had a problem yet when getting riding again, or if I start every 30 days during summer.

Thanks for the info................

I was thinking of using a hand vacuum pump on each check valve................I don't particularly care for the flavor of two stroke injection oil. ;)

The good news for you is your never going to have rusty crank bearings with all that oil down in your crank.....

That's true, however the fire department will likely receive multiple calls from within my neighborhood everytime I bring my machine out of storage............:face-icon-small-sho

Might have to fire it up a couple of times throughout the summer when the mosquitos are getting thick.............;)

What was found..............

Follow up to the issue I had with oil flooding into the crankcase over the summer months & running out the exhaust during the first start up of the season:

Separate tests, using a hand operated vacuum pump, of all injection check valves revealed one faulty valve (PTO bearing)...........All others were sealing 100%.............

The injection pump was removed from the engine & allowed to hang freely with a clean rag placed beneath to catch any oil that may have been coming from the injection pump input shaft seal - after several days no leakage was apparent..........

I'm not sure if replacing the check valve will cure the problem or not as the leakage into the crankcase likely occurs over a long period of time & the only way to confirm will be to let the machine sit for months on end but I thought I'd post my findings for those who had similar issues & were wondering..........

As many others have posted the leakage of injection oil, into the crankcase over extended periods of time, will not cause any damage to the engine however it proves to more of an annoyance than anything................:face-icon-small-fro

FYI,

Glen
