Oil Consumption & MPG Question...

Hey Guys...

Well Ive logged a little over 800mi on the SB this year.

Im wondering what kind of MPG you guys are seeing and how much oil youre using.

I was riding mainly trails over the weekend in the UP. Some long 70mph straight aways and such...

We put on a little over 400mi this weekend and I burned through about a gallon of oil. A rough guess on MPG was about 9MPG.

Im pretty happy with the performance so far with stock clutching and gearing. (but im sure there is room for improvement) I was able to pull away from my buddy's 800 Crossfire on the lake.

Anyways...just curious if my MPG and oil comsumption sound about right. Ive been keeping an eye on the oil cable and it moves freely...

400 miles in one weekend, impressive. thought I was doing good with 582 miles so far this year. Although mine was mostly mountain riding and not trails.

9 mpg and a quart of oil every tank is what I get consistently on my 900's.

pretty much the same for me and I drive a shorty...about 9.4 mpg and 1 quart of oil per tank

I changed the helix out on my secondary to a 66-44-.46 ER and I gained a lot more mpg. I'm around 11mpg now and the sled tops out quicker. I'm burning about the same in oil as you guys as well. Almost a quart per tank which is about where you want to be, 38:1 ratio.

Thanks for the replies. Ill have to keep an eye out for a new helix...just dont want to fork over a lot of $$ for one right now.

Nice! I saw used ones on ebay for $60 + shipping.

Ill have to give that a try..

Doesnt look like they have any in stock.... oh well.

Just make sure it is an ER helix so your reverse will still work
