Oil Cap Issue

Had my 2012 pro on it's side and it leaked most of the oil out of the tank. This has never happened to me before. The cap was still on. Talked to my dealer and they think I went to tight and created a leak spot. Is this really possible? If so how tight do you turn the cap and how do I clean all the oil up that is all over the engine?

Hooo. Boy! Can you borrow an oil reservoir cap from a friend and try it to see if you have the same problem?
Dawn dish soap is an excellent De-greaser.
Good luck.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the neck sleeve, but I had the same problem on my '11 and my dealer swore the check ball in the cap couldn't be the problem and don't bother changing out the $8 cap. I told them to put a new cap on anyway and problem solved. Silly dealers.

It's common. I got the same story that I cross threaded it putting it on too tight....I don't buy it because I have done that on an older sled and was very careful not to on this one. I think the tank and/or cap eventually goes out of round and/or the threads slip and the cap winds up on an angle even if you have threaded it properly. The sleeve seems like a good idea....or a cap. I was in a pinch and carefully screwed the cap on top of a plastic wal-mart bag and its worked so well it's been like that all winter lol

DITTO!

I bought the neck sleeve but that wasn't it. A lot of these sleds came with BAD CAPS! My dealer gave me a new one and problem solved.

Have FUN!
