oil all over clutch

I am riding a 06 rev 800 and seem to have a problem with oil getting all over my primary and secondary clutch. It is not grease from the crank seal, i am pretty sure of that. My question is, has anyone else ever experienced this problem? I clean everything really well and then after 2-3 rides my clutchs are coverd in a sticky oily mess. I think that after i ride hard for a while the oil is heating up enough that as the clutches are spinning they pick up the oil off the belly pan and flip it everywhere. I cant seem to find an oil leak that is that obvious. Please help me if you have any ideas or have experienced this.

Is it oil/exhaust spray or is it coolant spray from a faulty O ring on the head?? I had a O ring fail on a High Compression sled that would spray coolant on the clutch and attract a ton of crap on the face.

Check the oil resivor. I had a 600 ZX summit that loved to dump 2 stroke oil out the breather especially when u were carving in deep powder, (or rolling the sled out of a deep hole). Make sure that the one way valve is working.

These are all good ideas of where check. Spark plugs are tight, had that happen once before, sled ran like crap. It is for sure oil, no coolant. Rotax3006 i think that could be a good possibility. I just got back from the dealer from buying a new oil cap.. Seems to be the only place of oil leaking. Dealer said they see bad caps every now and then but did not mention any thing about breather. I will check that vavle in a few and see if i get any leaking by laying sled on its side. Thanks for all the input so far.

I chased a problem very much like this for 3 months last year. After going through all of the obvious possibilities and a big mess, it ended up being the seal between the water pump and the oil galley that lubes the cross shaft. There's two seals in there, one that seals off the water pump and one that seals off the galley behind the oil pump. There's a small weep hole between the seals so in case of failure, the oil and water can't mix. Very hard if not impossible to see with the engine in the sled. Good luck man.

It is oil, that you have determined. Is it two stroke oil? The cap or breather is a very good option to look at. Can you relocate the vent line? The other item to check, if its not 2 stroke, would be the breather on the dipstick of the chain case. I overfilled my chaincase once (learned the hard way, more is not better) and we had oil every where. Good luck with the search....

so just thought i would throw out a little update. ive been out going over this sled with a fine tooth comb and i am finding fresh oil around the resevoir, i cant find a crack in the resevoir and all the fittings seem to be clamped good. My pull cord is pretty saturated in oil. it seems as though i am loosing oil in this part of the machine so earlier I mentioned i picked up a new new oil cap, i pulled it off just because.... and then i notice the neck on my resevoir is warped, the actual thread part of it is deformed on the exhaust side. Im running a slp single and can and guess it mounts a little to close to the resevoir and probably got a little to hot, seems like the only logical way for this to happen, i dont know, but i hope this fixes it cause i am not thrilled about what JROD said he had to do to fix his! Dont ask me how i have missed this in the past cause you would think every time you put oil in the sled you would notice this but i am much like the rest of you when there is fresh powder to be had you dont look for crazy things like this!

Modmxz, thankyou for posting this, A new resevoir is around $65 you just saved me about $45 if that insert works. Appreciate the help!
