o5 900 speedo reading at idle???

My 05 900 is having a major malfunction. The speedo reads various speeds at idle. Also my tach will not work. The tach quit working awhile ago and now my speedo has gone nuts.Any ideas? ecu?I have the sled tore down and have not found a bad wire so far.The sled starts and runs ok but does have some runnability issues. The mfd was replaced but no change.Any help will be appreciated.

My 06 900 RMK did that before I changed the stator and flywheel. Found insulation on wiring worn through at plastic wiring holder at top of crankcase. Voltmeter would not be as high as it should be and would get worse as the sled heatsinked. Then it would start to misfire. Havent seen my sled do that since I changed those parts. I may have changed routing of other wiring though.

I had those issues a couple years back ('05 900), turned out to be ECU, not saying that's what your problem lies but, a couple things to check, do you have the deep snow service manual? Trace the tach pulse wire from MFD to chassis connection and check the speedo sending unit-sensor and cogged gear on end of driveshaft.

Put in new ecu and and all my problems went away.Well except for the speedo.lol My tach is back, temp is back and she pulls like a tractor should again!Speedo sensor must be pooched but could care less about it.Nice to have my tach and temp back. Thanks for the help and offers of used ecu. This site is a must for us 900 riders. Rubber side down! gone riding. Thanks again.

Electrical Noise issue

This is out of the Owners manual. My 2005 900 will read from 0 - 8 mph SOMETIMES at idle. I believe the Electrical Nosie issues that cause other readings to be off could be the culprit.

Maximum Speed/RPM Reset
While in either the MAX MPH or the
MAX RPM mode, press and hold the
SET button for three seconds to reset
the recorded maximum values for both
MPH and RPM. Both of these values
are reset at the same time. Reset the
MAX MPH/RPM values before each
run to obtain accurate readings.

NOTE: Due to electrical noise, the
MFD may occasionally
display MAX MPH/RPM
values that are not
representative of actual
values.
