Nytro SuperCharger Questions

i'm getting ready to pull the trigger on a MPI SC for my new nytro. any word on things to look out for or to do on the install that some of you 'road testers' have already seen?

right now i'm planning on a stage 1 and relatively low boost on pump gas. i don't really need a missle, just reliable horsepower in the 200 range.

any tips/advice is appreciated. thanks.

jeff

Jeff - not sure how things are with the Nytro, I know that we had a few problems with the Apex application. Hopefully, Mac has improved from the Apex with better mounting for the intercooler, upgraded control box, intercooler oil "overheating". If long hours and hard work count, Mac should have most, if not all, the bugs worked out. For 200 or so HP, instant throttle and pump gas, the SC's are great.

I am not bashing MPI, they have helped as much as I have asked. BUT

These are issues you will face: (as determined by my own experience)
Intall time is going to be more than 4 hours, probably 20-30 depending on experience and tools. Pulleys need to be tightend all the time on the first couple trips. Also Some people have been having problems with the taper locks on the pulleys , but I have not yet. Supercharger Oil does not maintain temp, it gets hot and you have to shut down for a while. I had trouble with my TORS--(i think and hope!--still haven't tested, but not an MPI thing really if it is TORS) Fuel mapping is the main mess right now. Not getting enough fuel at WOT(stage II) . They are supposed to have a fix.........
Other thing is intake is right between hot engine, and intercooler. Don't have to be an expert to figure out it is going to be getting hot air in no time.
And it loves gas(avg 4-5mpg on first 2 rides), but it does take fuel to make power, and it does do that VERY good. Some are putting Bypass valves on to help this.
With all this said, I am still determined to get these issues resolved, because the super application fits me well and i don't think these issues are too major to overcome. If I could go back 1 month I would probably talk myself into an MCX:face-icon-small-blu But I am definitely invested now.....so on with the show. But I am learning alot from ty4stroke.com---mostly HAMMER. I would check that site out before determining what boost you want.

Jeff, take a long look at a MCX or alpine turbo. I was in the same boat with my apex. SC sounded far superior on paper, but once I saw a turbo in action I bought one the following week and couldn't be more thankful MPI was behind schedule.

Nothing like being able to dial up or down the boost in seconds. When you have 200hp, you'll want 220. When you have 220, you'll want 240, and on and on.

Don't let the lag scare ya. It's an over dramatized problem fabricated by people who don't own turbos. Never once have I needed better throttle response.

Either way, welcome to the dark side. You'll never go back.

thanks for the great responses everyone. is there anyone on here with a stage 1, 10lbs. of boost and pump gas that HASN'T had a problem with an MPI supercharger? is everyone doing the A/F setup too?

i'm gonna call randy and get the lowdown on the mcx.

thanks.

Nothing but problems, problems, problems!!! Kicking my a$$ that i did not stay with my MCX order.

Installed two stage 2 S/C on nytro's. Been to Revelstoke twice now (8 hour drive and nothing but trouble!!

15-20 hr install, cutting, drilling, grinding, broken taper locks on both sleds, hose from the billet distribution block has wore through on both (4-5 hr tear down on each) guages fogged up that they sent out, guage bracket is a joke (had to build my own), had to wait for different pullys for one because of to much boost for customer, can't get enough fuel at either one of them at WOT, waited for fuel regulator kit on mine to fix fuel problem, another tear down, didn't work!! They have no idea on fuel settings, for programmer. But when your talk to them the kits are working good. BS!!

No names mentioned but I let some other very experienced tuners and riders drive it to see if I was setting it wrong and they are saying WTF!!

6 days of riding in the mountains and still don't have a sled working. I seen 4 MCX nytro's 14-18 lbs boost going hard, and one alpine turbo in the last 4 days. All working good.

Don't go with a not so SUPER CHARGER until they are working.

Cut your losses, pull it off flog it and throw on an mcx. Did you install a headshim? If so the turbo install will be a breeze! Dude its only time and money. Lifes to short for that kind of crap. Set up the mcx exactly like Randy's and Casey's and you be turn key and go! Just my 2 cents!:beer;

That can't be MPI said I was the ONLY one having these problem's,and my broken taperlocks well they said they have never seen that ever!!!!Ya right and I was just born last night. So i hear your complaint's loud and clear!!!So the fuel regulators don't work?Maybe we should just add another fuel pump like they did with all the apex's???That seemed to work on all them.

Ken you are right, I wish you where there to slap me up side the head when I cancelled my MCX because it wouldn't be here until Jan. Would be farther ahead to go back on the waiting list IMO.

Mac at MPI has 2 nice messages waiting for him to call me back tomorrow. I want this solved NOW!!

I can only sled until mid march because of my work and the season is 1/2 over for me.

Jeff, my MCXpress Turbo will be on the Nytro and on the snow by this Friday. Want first ride!! Don't tell any one I about the MCX Nytro, Shhhh

Maybe I was a tad harsh huh? Maybe its just a simple fix and you'll be lov'n your s/c soon? I hope so mang!

KC BOOST

Keep us informed as to what mac tells you as we all want some answers!!! My biggest concern is the taperlocks coming off all the time,I'll be tightening the set screws often from now on!!!Then my next concern is lean at wot because of not enough fuel.Which i can live with by riding 3/4 throttle till she blows up from going to lean all the time.I wonder if they will rebuid all of our engine for free when they get the problem figured out,as we are techniquely their ginnuie pigs.Seems like once they sell a kit they could care less what happens to us!!!!!!Although they are nice on the phone,You tell them what's going on and they act like they have never heard of the problem yet. Can't quite figure that one out yet. It's like their pre programed as to what to tell you????????

Well that cures the decision between a S/C and a turbo for this guy. I'm with Jlowe at the moment though. Stock I can climb with most 700's around here and that is good enough for me to get used to it before I double up on ponies:D
