Nytro radiator removal

It was suggested that when installing a new CR that with the added cooling of the new "U" cooler, it would be ok to remove the radiator for weight savings. Has anyone done this or what are your thoughts?

When deleting the stock radiator and using the cr racing u-cooler, do you still use the small stock heat exchanger that yamaha has in the front mag side of the tunnel?

Nope...that is deleted as well...I'm in the process of doing it right now.

I'm also in the process if doing a radiator delete.

Curt at Fastrax is doing this on mine with the thought of offering a kit. We're doing an outer running board cooler to replace the wimpy stock extrusions, with a U cooler under the tail, and deleting the littler under tunnel heat exchanger.

We estimate an approximate 10 lbs of weight savings, and relocating approx 20 lbs from the nose to the rear (cooler, tubing, coolant, etc...). For those with Timbersled rear skids, this will help re-establish the weight distrubution and help reduce the "nose-heavy" feel.

For those not running a turbo (mine is S/C) we're also doing an exhaust modification to turn the exhaust outlet 180 degrees, point it forward to keep it competely under tunnel (no muffler), and close up the hole in the tunnel. The turbos that are tunnel dump have no muffer and are quieter than the stocker with an aftermarket muffler, so I'm going to give it a shot.

Within a couple of weeks we should know what the cost is, and I'll update.

If you have any questions, give Curt a call.

I used a 153" straight U-cooler from an Arctic Cat that I bought on Ebay. Took some trimming on the bumper end and had the left inlet rewelded to get it away from the Impulse header. Stock radiators hoses were cut down and fit well. $65 for the cooler and $30 for the weld were well spent and no problems so far.

i don't think there is much weight savings as the radiator does not hold that much. My guess is that with a U cooler you will hold more liquid. However I do like the idea of moving weight back and freeing up space under the hood for air flow.

Most I've seen and what I did was replace the breather coupler on the upper right coolant return line with a Polaris coolant filler\overflow bottle and zip tie it to the steering hoop.

I went with a Van Amburg radiator delete and tunnel. anyone else put one on? I need some help with how the lines are ran with radiator delete. Any pics would help alot.

I'm not sold on this mod at all except for the moving the weight back and cleaning up the engine bay. I agree with Sledskiing in that I bet with a big U cooler you actually add weight. I always ran a temp guage on my Rx1 and it had a ton of cooling including a big U cooler. On the those rock hard trails in the morning it would run hot until it hit some deeper snow then the temp would drop almost instantly. My Nytro with the rad never heats up, plus you can leave it idling and it won't overheat. I'm not seeing a lot of benefits here but each to his own.

I didnt' do it cause i was overheating. I actually put a hole in frn radiator somehow that last ride of last season and decided while i'm fixing it to get a new tunnel since i had bent that too. So i went with Van Amburg cause they do awsome work just dont have any instructions on there stuff they kind of leave you hanging.. here are some pics. the radiator delete comes with all the pipes but you have to buy some radiator hose to connect them all and some clamps. great product but really need instructions for how to connect all the hoses together.
