Hi everyone, first time Yamaha owner, 09 Nytro MTX, (other sled is a A/C M7 162") and first time poster looking for some info.
I live at 900' altitude and ride 2-3 times/year in the mountains, thus I would like to get my sled set up to ride here at home as well as the mountains. I haven't had anything apart yet, but from what I understand the MTX's come from the factory set up for the 8,000-10,000 altitude (no rivets/weights in the clutch weights). Went to the parts desk and discovered that to remove the rivets in the clutch weights, they have to be drilled out. This seems kind of clusmy if I'm going to be switching it 3 times a year, so I priced out 3 additional clutch weights in which I could just leave the riveted weights in. I got a price quote of $391 just for those three weights! There has got to be a better solution! What have you guys been doing?
I also bought a different (blue, yellow, blue if I remember right) primary clutch spring, which should be easy enough to replace. Also noted that a different gear ratio was recomended (gearing it faster for my lower altitude), but that would run another $200. I said I wasn't interested in trying to get this sled to 120mph, just trying to get the engine/clutch to behave when riding around home.
On another note, I snowchecked this sled last spring and took delivery last week, all I've done is warmed it up and drove it into my shop and I have to say that the throttle response feels razor sharp! I'm really impressed so far and can't wait for some snow... the reverse was sure nice as well. Thanks for the info guys!
