Now I am p!ssed!

I just went to buy license plates (Colorado) for my 1978 bronco and my 1993 plymouth sundance. I haven't driven the car for 4 months, and the bronco just for fishing. I noticed the plates were expired on the bronco a month ago but haven't been in town to get them. The car expired 3 months ago, but I don't drive it, no big deal, right? Wrong! $208.00 for the pair! They were $30.00 each last year, but our fine governor ritter raised the rates and added a $25.00 a month late charge. No vote, no house, no senate, just the governor wanting to raise money. How can that even be legal?
The only thing that made me a little happy was that the Moffat County Clerk has pre-adressed protest cards there for you to comment on and sign, they send them in to the state. They even have the county logo on them.

The increase in late fees was all over the news when it went into effect...CO over-charges when it comes to registering vehicles but it is what it is.

Half of those fees could have been avoided if you had just paid up on time?

Reminds me of a buddy who is always getting pulled over for speeding...ranting on and on about the FN cops. Guess what...no speeding...no ticket. :beer;

More than half could have been avoided.:o It is what it is? So if ritter wants to add a $300.00 fee for registering a sled it's ok because it is what it is?

I am not one to piss and moan about fee's so you are barking up the wrong tree. If I can afford all the toys I can afford all the fee's that go with it.

I could easily spend 300$ on a bar tab (and do) so no whining from me when it comes to paying up for leisure activities.

But thats me...continue on with your rant. :) ;) :beer;

So what happens in this situation:

You own an older car, lets say a '71 Cuda for funs sake. You drove it through your teens and early twenties but family and life happens so it gets parked out in the barn. Its now been sitting for 15-20 years and you can finally restore it to its former glory. You spend the time and effort to get it road worthy, only to find that you owe $25 a month for the last 20 years that it was in storage?

I guess the real question is does it apply from the date that the governor decided he needed more money for the budget, or is it retro active and you'd be paying $6,000 to be able to register your restored vehicle? The whole deal seems pretty F'd up to me.

If a car is sitting you can have an out of usage tag until it is ready to go back on the road...no fees.

Them tree hugger pieces of sh1t like Ritter should have gave you a discount for not driving it for three months. His next fascist slight of hand trick will be surcharging 2500/3500 trucks because he doesn't think you should be driving something that bid.

I say you just bag the 71 Cuda thing and sell it to me and I will bring it to Montana and register it permanatly for about $80.00 and we will both be tickled pink:D

In Montana you can put permanent tags on anything older than 10 years I believe. A one-time cost.

I do believe that my 00 Powerstroke (bought in dec 99) will be eligible soon. :)

edit: didn't see the whole thread before I posted...sorry for repeat info. LOL

tudizzle has the opposite view of government that most. These are taxes we had no say in. The greedy "representatives" failed us as did the greedy governor. They're circumventing the Constitution of the State of Colorado and few seem to care. On the contrary, those like tudizzle blow it off.
When does it become too much? ever?

I was told they charged for it. Democratizi do nothing for free.

LOL...things get twisted fast, sure are alot of "what ifs"

I got one

What if the tags were paid on time? Would the OP be moaning about paying 100$ to get 2 cars registered?

Seems like the status quo is to blame someone else for what happens. I was taught to take responsibility for my actions. What if?

I am pissed about paying more than I did last year, but more po'ed that the governor dictated that we pay more. Do you not see a problem with executive orders (or what ever you want to call them) that cost you more money?

From what I remember the fee increase was for road and bridge repairs. I drive all over this great state and do not feel bad about chipping in thru my registration.

How would you suppose we raise the money needed to keep our roadways safe?

........oops more bad news....it will go up more the next two years :eek:

A household pays over $300 per month in federal taxes that go to roads / transportation. On top of that is state taxes (fees are taxes too) which are already extremely high in Colorado and have grown significantly in recent (Democratzi) years.

In the very near future, Colorado will go back to auto emissions. But instead of choosing the more accurate computerized method that could be done at most auto shops, they granted a monopoly to an out-of-state company to setup special businesses where you must go & pay dearly for your less accurate emissions test.

The State claims it "costs us nothing" this way. However, by "us" they mean the legislature, not you & me. It will cost you and me DEARLY.

So tudizzle, where do we draw the line?

you honestly believe the money is going to bridge repair? look around.
or better yet, look into it. they lied... again.
shocker (except all three fingers went in the 'stink')

so many 'revenue streams' for the government are stated to go to heart string purposes, usually education for the precious children...
it rarely does, it goes to the greedy politicians special interest groups, ie unions et al

by the way, quit stealing my money to indoctrinate (educate) your kids, teach them yourself & maybe you'll learn something

.

I guess I am just to simple minded to see the conspiracy in it all.

best of luck....:beer;
