Hey i have a 99 rmk 700 i am 1800ft above sea level running a blue spring in the primary and a silver in the secondary. jets are 190's . i can only pull a max of 7400 rpm, an when its at 7400 it sounds like a rev limiter. help!! could it be a timing issue or jetting
Pull the spark plug boots off the plugs and check them for lots of black soot like deposits. The metal insert in the boot that goes over the spark plug cap has a tendency to become worn and thereby gets loose on the plug. This causes arcing between the contact and the plug which causes missing or poor spark at high rpm. Wash the soot out of them with brake cleaner and try to squeeze the metal insert closed so it fits tighter. The best long term solution is to get new plug boots like NGK with the resistor built in.
i'm sure the plug wires arent the issue. we rebuilt this motor i got prol 800 miles on it. yes accs is hooked up. i'm wondering what to do to make it perform better in the mtns. we go to elevations up around 4000-6000
